Joel is officially a big brother! 3 Attachment(s) I know it's only been a few hours but Joel hates him! LOL He's really sad:( I sure hope he gets used to him and they're best friends. He doesn't like him getting his toys either. And sometimes nips his face, I'm not sure if I ignore it or tell him stop? I'm making sure to give Joel lots of attention but it's kinda hard when I have to keep on the puppy too. Dixon is adorable but I forgot how puppies are haha. Also they're almost the same size(for now!) Dixon is about 2 pounds bigger |
AWWW those big fluffy puppy paws...I just want to cuddle him :) what breed is he? Hopefully Joel will just take some time to adjust. Toki and Teddy didn't hit it off immediately. Teddy wouldn't touch any toys or lay in dog beds (poor fellow would just lay in the middle of the floor) and Toki liked it that way lol. And Toki was a little (a lot) jealous too of the new addition...she would try to shove him off my lap, attack his legs when I was picking him up, or chase him off our couch. Although I gave Toki preferential treatment (like feeding her first, greeting her first, etc.) I was still firm with her. It took a few weeks for her to fully accept him and several months for them to get to the point where they are today. They still occasionally have their spats but now they play and wrestle together all the time and are good buddies. Anyway, keep us posted on Dixon and Joel! |
Dixon is beautiful! He looks like a perfect little stuffed puppy dog! I hope Joel gets used to him. |
it will take time and I would probably put joel in his place a bit with the nipping. I would suggest Joel goes first for everything..treats, baths....so on. Sending lots of Joel love your new brother vibes!! |
Perhaps Joel wants to make sure Dixon knows who the boss is? Magnus was really good with Zoey when she first came home. But now, I notice that he's not as tolerant. My niece's dog is still at that puppy stage and she's more playful than Zoey ever was. She gets in his face a lot, trying to get him to play but he doesn't quite appreciate it. He'll put up with it for a bit but not too long. Funny thing is, my neighbor has a golden doddle puppy who's playful as well. But Magnus will not put up with him even for a bit. I think you should let Joel and Dixon figure things out. Of course, while keeping an eye on them to make sure it doesn't get serious. :D Perhaps some playtime out in neutral ground together would speed things along? |
So cute! Congrats on the new addition!!!! When I brought Blazer home to stay it took Buddy a good week to even allow Blazer to be near him! My friend recently brought home Yorkie #2 and her Yorkie #1 wasn't too keen on his new sister. It also took about a week or two for them to play together. It'll work out for you, too (as I'm sure you know) and they'll be the best of friends soon enough. Somehow it seems that the little ones always end up the boss of the group anyway! |
OMG! Dixon is such an adorable ball of fluff! I just wanna smoosh him and smell that great puppy breath!! Joel will come around, hopefully sooner rather than later ;) |
I'm glad to here it will just take time:p Dixon is a pain, lol A lot more puppyish then Joel was. Joel seemed alot better when we got up this morning. He's really trying to be good:) Whenever the puppy chews on his toys Joel acts disgusted, haha but he's doing a little better. |
I love him! Joel will eventually hopefully get used to him, it took my Chanel 2 months of pouting like a human to finally adjust to her little sister Cheri....She still gets jealous when I hold Cheri too long and it's been 8 years? What breed is Dixon? He is adorable! |
when I had multiple dogs and would bring home a new baby the others would be "what the heck is that???" and jump on the sofa lol. They would NOT go near or let the newbie come near them, they stayed on the sofa. When the time came the puppy was able to jump on the sofa that was it lol, my older ones had no choice but to accept their new way of living, they all got along fine, but it would take 2 months, or what ever amount of time it would take the new puppy to be able to jump up on the sofa. All my yorkies were big, 10 & 11 lbs. so jumping on and off sofa was never a danger and my floors were carpeted. Give Joel time he will accept. Why not take Joels toys and get new toys for the puppy, just for now, until Joel gets used to the puppy, that will take stress and jealousy off Joel. They will be just fine, it may take weeks or a couple of months, but it will work out. Good luck with your new baby he is a cutie pie. |
He's an Akita:) |
Here's a video:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDOO...e_gdata_player |

Ahh Dixon looks like he just loves Joel already. Joel is too sweet to stay mad/sad for long. Roscoe will be watching over them. |
