my new yorkie Hello I'm new here and new owner of a 9 month old yorkie named bingo, I was wondering if you all could help me figure out what the best food is for his hair and health, he's in door puppy and Snell is important to me, I have him a bath with my shampoo and conditioner, he was very good and was very happy happy ayer warm bath. I have the young boys, 12, 8, &5. They love bingo to sleep with them so I just want to make sure my house doesn't get the dog Snell, and I try not to go crazy wanting to comb his hair all day lol.. love my bingo. Oh! Also he's not potty trained, so I was wondering if u had any tips. I have a pad in the bathroom and I try to take him everything I see him sniffing around. Weather is not good right now so I can't teach him to go outside. Thanks |
Congratulations on your new little boy! If you bathe him weekly, he will not smell. If he get pee or poo on him then just wash that area. Potty training......take him to his pad often and tell him to "go potty". If he has free run of the house you might have a problem catching him before he goes. Confine him to an area or watch him at all times. Enjoy you new addition! :) |
Thanks, yes he is free to roam around the house but he really doesn't like to be alone, so luckily he stays with me, so if he's not that means I need to go check on him. The only bad thing is I'm not home all day, so I put in him in if the Bruins with blanket, toys, food, water and training mat, hopefully we'll get it soon. I really want to teach him to ask to be taken out. But it has been raining so I can't do that now. Thanks a lot for your advice |
You should bathe him with a gentle puppy shampoo. Human hair products are not good for his skin. |
welcome to YT// I feed merricks and my morgan has done really well on the grain free |
Thanks i'll look for it, I'm still trying to figure out why he likes to go to the restroom everywhere except on his potty mat hahaha, |
I'm not sure what the books say but when you say you want him to learn to potty outside but you also say the weather is too poor for him to go outside... sort of contradictory.... If consistency is what you seek, then, 365 days of the year is when he should potty outside. It starts with you taking him outside several times a day, every day, regardless of weather. You can't just take a day off and expect him to hold it. Our little guy steps outside with us often, it rains here in Washington, often.....:animal36 |
Thanks, I'll try, I didn't want him to get sick or dirty, but yeah I agree in consistency, he's already 9 months old, i bought him older than regular people do, he had a defect and the other people that had bought him when he was a puppy took him back, i liked his personality but I know it will be harder to break old habits, the owner had said he was potty trained but it's obvious he isn't, I've been trying with the pad, and I try to take him there every-time i catch him, most of the time he's with me, but I've got 3 boys so keeping track of bingo is not easy, and I know some people have told me to keep him in a single area of the house, but he really doesn't like to be alone, and I feel bad, I'll try the taking him out more often, in the mean while he stays in my bathroom with his pad when I'm at work. I also need to take him for trim his hair looks so nice long but so hard to keep up, specially if it's raining every day. Thanks for the advice |

I agree with this 100% he may not want to go out the door but put shoes on and take him out in the designated potty spot and he will get it. |
