Question about Dslr and close-ups? 1 Attachment(s) I'm having a problem and I need your help. I figured out how to focus on his eyes, so that is good. But, how do I avoid making his nose look as large as his face? Right now he almost never sits still, so I'm limited on the photos that I take. I would love to learn to get a photo of what he really looks like. Any suggestions or tips will be appreciated. |
Well, this photo, the focus looks better on his nose than his eyes. Which is why his nose looks bigger. The focus isn't too bad, though. And I promise, it gets easier! Are you using your DSLR in full auto? Meaning, are you just clicking to take the photo? Or are you manually adjusting anything? If you are using it in full auto, I would recommend to start with at least selecting the focus point. This is still auto-focus (which I prefer), but you select which focus point to use and then can quickly adjust the frame to where your focus point is on her eyes, and snap the photo. I am a photographer, so please feel free to ask any questions, or to clarify something that was confusing. Also, I do suggest that you keep your camera on autofocus (I only manually focus when using a macro lens) and learn the basics of adjusting aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Your photos will improve tremendously. I'd be more than happy to give you some starter resources, too. |

I think you already suggested a website for beginners, I've been reading whenever I have a spare minute, trying new things. If you don't mind, when I practice can I post on here and have you critique my photos? No other way to learn than having someone help. Thanks again. |

I'd love to! And just for the record, animals that won't sit still are HARD to photograph!! Most of my pictures of my animals are just with my iPhone. But even with my DSLR, I'd say a ton turn out blurry because they won't sit still! You can easily use a T3i or similar forever, unless you want to be a professional. Even still, I used to do work with a photographer that primarily used a prosumer (semi-pro -Canon 7D) for his weddings. That's what I currently have. I no longer do weddings or photos for money; I got a burnt out that my favorite hobby turned into a job. I much prefer Canon over Nikon. This is definitely just MY OPINION. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Nikon, but Canon is my preference. I think that Canon's are more user friendly. Also, their equipment is generally cheaper than Nikon's (same quality build and results) especially when you get into the professional line and L lenses. |
