Updated Yorkie pictures. 2 Attachment(s) I just received some new photos of the puppies. They're 5 weeks old now, and will be ready in 4 weeks. Ah, I cannot wait to pick up my new little boy. P.S. Can I feed my pup a Raw diet? I feed my dogs Natures Instinct Raw, and was wondering if it's ok to feed a puppy that also, or should I wait until the puppy is a little older? Oh my, what a cutie pie!! I definitely think 9 weeks is too young to feed raw. Also, since you still have this option, I would like to strongly recommend waiting to pick up your puppy until it is 12 weeks old. This last few weeks are so important to their development and social skills. Also, the younger they are, the more at REAL RISK they are to get hypoglycemia. They can get it at 12 weeks, too, but I would sure give a heaf start at fighting it by keeping the pup with the mama for as long as possible. I can see why you are so anxious to get him home soon, though. He is just too adorable. :) Congrats!!! |

Even if they keep him longer I would not switch his food right away. He still needs puppy food to get all the nutrients. He sure is a cutie. |

Dr. Ian Dunbar says the most crucial socialising phase of a puppy's development is 8 to 12 weeks. So if the breeder is going to socialise them during this period fine leave them longer but I think this leave to 12 weeks is where a lot of the potty training problems come from. A pup of 9 weeks is plenty old enough to leave Mama, if it is healthy! If it is not healthy you dont want it. |
Ages for Yorkie pups to go to new homes The friend who raised my Yorkie said breeders of Yorkie pups should try to wait until about 13-14 weeks to Let them leave their mom as they can develop blood sugar problems since they are a small dog breed. I know Taffy was 14 weeks when I got him, his brother had gone home two days before, and the two 'smaller female pups' from her second Momma Yorkie (who were a week older) went home at 14 weeks, since they were littler than Taffy & his brother. |
