Meet Rocky
 

Hello everyone,

Here is our boy Rocky, he is currently a little bit older than one year, although this picture is taken about two months ago. My story of getting a yorkie was this - my wife does not likes dogs too much, so this was about the largest breed she would allow me to keep :p

When we visited breeder (together with our 7, 5 and 3 year old children), she reccomended to take one with the longest legs, at the same time this was the most active puppy. Parents both were about 5 lbs, however, our yorkie very quickly reached 11 lbs and currently is about size of Jack Russel terrier. That does not create any problems for me, as I never wanted teacup yorkies because of their fragility, especially with smaller children.

I do not know if all yorkies are the same, but our very quicly learned to use peeing pads - in fact, at the beginning they were scattered all around the house, that it was harder for the dog to find a spot without peeing pad rather than not. We did not crate train him, he sleeps on our bed since second day, and there were no accidents. Now he goes only outside, but it is no problem, because he sleeps all night.

Once he helped me to notice smoke in our house, which started in kitchen, and without talking in human language made me clearly understand, that I have to go downstairs to correct the problem :thumbup:

He likes to play with baloons - he can kick them with head very high if they are thrown towards him.

As all yorkies, Rocky does not like to be left alone for longer time When he was a puppy it resulted on chewing wires for phone and pc chargers, as a result most of our chargers had to be repaired...


At the beginning we had some problems with children, who accepted dog as a toy rather a live being, but now it is OK, because yorkie this size can stand on it's own.

The only problems are with neighbour girls, who did tease and abuse Rocky when he was smaller, if he would run out of yard - even with rocks and sticks, this is something a dog will not forget :mad: Now there is another problem - he attacks them at first ability, (no biting, just barking and running after them) and now they scream and run away. He is friendly with everyone else, even with strangers he barks only at the beginning. I have ordered Puppy bumper to deal with this situation.

I love Rocky. And I don't blame him for barking at girls who we're mean to him. I hope you had a talk with their parents about their behavior

EXACTLY that's one of the signs a psychopath is cruelty to animals. My daughter gets mad at me when I kill a fly. Much less would she think its okay to go outside and torment a dog. That's a shame. I think her parents need a stick to her behind.!

Rocky is soo adorable, and sounds like a great pup. And those girls sound horrible, and I wouldn't be upset that Rocky has stood up to them. It could have take a different turn with him ending up being afraid and hostile towards strangers. He's such a good boy. =]

Well, unfortunately the talk was a bit different. They warned my wife that they will call the police if the dog will keep chasing (note - even not biting them). I believe that children only display their parent's attitude against dogs. :( In order for my dog to be safe, I just have to restrict him getting out, because I do not trust these people.

Few days ago one of these girls went for a walk with her one and a half old brother, and came close to our fence. Rocky was happy to see the younger one, was waging tail, licking hands, then pause, growl at the girl, and then again lick hands of her brother, and growl again at the girl.

Few days ago I received puppy bumper - it seems to work fine against our dog getting out, by the way it is a good product, and I would reccomend to yorkie owners, who can not fully yorkie-proof their fence. :thumbup: For those who do not know, it is just a round pillow around dogs collar, which makes impossible for the dog to squeeze through tight spaces. For Rocky it works even psychologically - even without it, he now thinks being too fat, and does not try to get out :D
