Mya's ears, & eyes 1 Attachment(s) I am a new Yorkie Momma, so I am unfamiliar with their ears. I have been giving Mya cottage cheese for a little over a week, and her ears are perking up. Yesterday she had them both up for a few minutes and my daughter managed to snap a picture.. She is 10 weeks old. Should I consider taping them? Also I have been wiping and drying her eyes, but I missed yesterday as she had a very busy day at the vet and shots made her sleepy. When I came home today, she had a glob of mucus in her right eyes. I washed it out with a soft cloth and water. Is this normal? As far as I could tell it was clear white? Thanks, Sherri |
Hi There! Mya is a doll!! How much cottage cheese are you giving her and why? I would maybe cut the amount in half or stop period. Usually dogs don’t take dairy well. If you are giving in small amount a couple times a month- not a big deal, but I wouldn't make it a habit. She is also pretty young. There are other things you can give her that would be better suited for her. Her ears should stand on their own. I was able to play with Peanut’s ear, I also had the groomer shave them. The hair on the ears weighs them down. In her down time you can also rub them.. rub from the bottom up, like you are pushing them up- I did that and I believe it helped. In the picture her ears look like they will stand up- just the shape to me looks like it. The dairy could make her eyes watery- gunky. That is why I advised you to cut down the cottage cheese or stop it period. What kibble are you feeding? |
Mya is now on Eukanuba. I give her less than a teaspoon of cottage cheese every couple of days. I was told and read in here that it would help her ears stand. |

That teething puppies lack calcium needed. |
Your pups is Adorable !! Eye goober is just a fact, there is nothing you can do to stop it. You do need to be sure to keep it cleaned up and not let it get to built up. It helps to keep the hair trimmed. I even shave the inside of corners of the eyes and along the brim of the nose. That does seem to help the build up so that it does not rub against the eye. |
I had similar issues with Zoey's eyes when she was a puppy. I didn't think anything of it but when I took her for her shots, the vet mentioned one of her eye has a slight infection. Just had to apply some ointment for a week or so. I clean her eyes with wipes twice a day and whenever I see her eyes water, I at least wipe the eyes with my hands. At someone's suggestion from this site, I've been cleaning her eyes morning and night with nursery water. It's only been few days but I think I see improvement. She still tears but I think it's a lot less. I don't see the tear stains as much. |

Mya is adorable! Milo's ears stand on their own but for about a week one flopped. I just massaged it a few times a day to help it stand back up. I very carefully use a tiny comb to comb eye goop out of Milo's fur but you have to be soooo careful. |

Do you use a regular comb? I know you said tiny but wondering if there's a specific type. |
No, you've got it. It's a flea comb :) Quote:

I'm surprised about the number of worried comments about whether puppies ears stand up or not. I guess I never really worried about Sofie's one droopy ear because the breeder said eventually both would be up, and I read that trimming hair on the ear is important to get it to stay up. So I would say make sure get a trimmer and get that hair off! Lol worked for me :D |
