My little Bailey .... 9 1/2 week old little girl! 2 Attachment(s) Hello, I'm a new member of this community and I would like to introduce to you my little baby girl Bailey. She was born on May 26 2013. We've had her for just a week and the whole family just loves her. Only thing we have work on right now is getting her to use the pee pad. The first day we brought her home, she was ok... but now she seems to love peeing on carpets. So, last night we took away every carpet in the house, thinking that she would understand to use the pee pad. But this morning she did it on the floor. Any advise any one? I have ordered and exercice pen and will try placing pee pads in the exercice pen everywhere and taking one out after a few days and keep removing them all until she goes only on one pee pad. Has anyone tried that? Is this the right way to do it? We have two cats, 2 year old Lacey and 1 year old Angel. They of course use the litter and Bailey seems to want to go in the cat litter. I don't think it's a good thing for her to get use to going there. Anyways, thanks for having this great website where I can get information on making my little baby girl's experience at home with us the best I can offer her. |
Bailey is a sweet girl, nice to meet you both. |
What a beautiful, Bailey. When they are so young, they need to be taken to the pads right after meals, after naps, after playtime. Give the "potty" command and wait until they go....it may take some time to understand what you expect of her. Another thing to do is, if you are not able to watch her all the time, confine her with her pad to a small area or x-pen. Please make sure she has food in front of her at all times or at least feed 4 times a day. She is so very young and at risk for hypoglycemia. Congratulations! |
she is adorable! |
She is so Cute |
The one thing that helped me with potty pad training for Brandi was to put her potty pad where she was peeing the most. I would dab a little of her pee on the pad (clean up the rest)and just leave it there. You can always move it gradually after she is consistently peeing on the pad. The other thing I did was praise her tremedously and give her a treat. Be careful with the treats though....they learn how to quickly do the fake peeing to get the treats. Brandi got me with this one when I was training her to go outside.....took me months to catch on.:p Most importanly, give it time and be persistent. Bailey is a cutie and looks oh so ornery. I bet she is already chasing the cats.:D |
Hello and welcome to YT. She is such a cutie. A ex pen is great. Try to put her on the pee pad and tell her go potty. And when she does. Make a big deal out of it. I use Cheerios, I break them up so there is not a lot to fill up. I would not let her in the litter box. Sometimes dog eat cat poop. And the litter can be a big problem |
she is gorgeous, congratulations on your new arrival. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Little Bailey is absolutely adorable. Their bladders are so tiny, they can't hold much for long. Deb 1 has given you great advice, as have others. You need to keep her confined when you are unable to watch her, and don't give her too much freedom until she gets trained. They will learn to go to where the scent is, so make sure you clean up any accidents with a product like Simple Solution or Natures Miracle, not just something that tries to cover the scent. |
Hi and welcome to YT. She is so cute. |

This has always worked well for me....I send my babies home to new owners pee pad trained, and this is exactly how I do it...there is no "right" way or "wrong" way! These little buggers can be sooooo stubborn....I LOVE that about them!!! Battle of wills!!!! But my little ones walk around on pee pads in the bottom of their exercise pens from 4 weeks old until they leave here at 12-14 weeks....and when they are allowed to run in a small enclosed place, having essentially been "raised" on pee pads, they will gravitate to the pee pads because that is what they know! |
Congratulations! She is adorable. |
she's adorable! These type of dogs are so stubborn! I FINALLY potty trained my yorkie and it took me like 2 months! Just watch her like a hawk. Like what everyone else said, place her on the potty pad after meals, and after naps. Just don't throw in the towel, consistency is key. Anyways Congrats on your Yorkie she's a cutie for sure |
