Ahhh My minnie has demodex I was at the vet today with Minnie and they found demodex, she's 5months old now. I know I was concerned with her breed because her hair isn't 100% what it's supposed to be but now this. I asked the vet if it could have something to do with it and they said possibly. What is everyone's opinion and thoughts about this situation |
Don't worry my chihuahua has this. It's not curable but treatable, it's not contagious from one dog to the other only from mom to offspring. The vet should give you a dip and shampoo to treat this. It works. I didn't know my dog had this because she's a rare blue chihuahua and they are prone to hairloss but she did. It's just faded. It's CRUCIAL that you spay or neuter the hormone change will cause him or her to have episodes. Let me know how if goes :) wish you all the best. |
It's a terrible thing. I feel do bad for her. They gave me shampoo for her to use 3 times a week for a month. Do you know how long until you see a difference in the hair |

It's on her face and bottom of her legs and its very thin at those spots. Those are the only spots I noticed so far. When you say slow do you mean weeks months lol when you say dips do you mean baths with that shampoo stuff lol |
This shows up more in younger dogs. Usually if it first shows up in an older dog,there is an underlying medical reason. Taffy,age 13,was diagnosed with this today,but I figured that the spots I was seeing was demodex. She has been put on an antibiotic. We were told that she does have several other problems today. |

Hi! My Mia had démodex when I brought her home at 12 weeks old, we did the medicated shampoo weekly and my vet also gave us Ivermectin drops that she took daily! Her scratching got less and less with Each day after starting treatment. Within 2 weeks her skin test came back negative! It did take probably a month before her hair started to fill in and look healthy. I also switched her food to a lamb kibble, the breeder had her on purina puppy chow, and I wanted to be certain her intensive scratching wasn't in part from allergies. Hope all goes well and your baby gets back to being healthy soon!! |
Yes if it's thin than it will get shaded in soon, the dip is a strong liquid put into water. Then you dip the dog in for a few mins and let the chemicals get into the hair follicle. It's very strong so the dogs may throw up, get dizzy. I saw the shading in within 3 days, also I left the shampoo on for 10 mins before the dip. |
Thanks so much for the info. The stuff I have I'm supposed to donthreevtimes a week for a month and it stays on for ten mind as well. The vet did say I could use conditioner afterwords is that something you did or would recommend. |
I only used the medicated shampoo and left it on for 10 min, once a week. my vet told me to not use anything but the shampoo, so I don't know about the conditioner. |
I only used the shampoo but I would seek a second opinion because the shampoo alone I don't believe will be an effective treatment. Might work but that's just my opinion. |
