Do Yorkies hair grow at different rates? My baby Bentley is only 15 weeks old and his hair has a little bit of silver starting to grow but not as much as the ones I see online. Could the breeder have lied about the birthdate? Don't think so because the vet said it seemed just about right. Maybe the hair grows at different rates, what do you guys think? Also I have noticed crazy changes as far as the hairs texture. I have seen some Yorkies with silky straight hair and others with curly hair all over. Can you tell what type of texture your puppy will have from a young age? So curious :) :) |

He looks right on target for 15 weeks, to me. Their hair changes so often over the first year to year and a half, it is almost impossible to tell what type of coat he will have at this young age. You'll have a better idea around the 5 or 6 month mark. I tell my girl that she is under achieving because most 1 year old's have tan/gold on their entire heads (or almost) - from the pics I see. She still has a lot of silver/gray. I think they all change at their own pace :) |
I agree with Terri that they change so much over the first couple of years and at different rates. Max went through so many color changes that I can barely remember them all. Teddy had a white blond head and is now gold. His hair texture continued to change beyond his second birthday, growing more silky. Silky hair tends to grow slower than cottony coats. Puppy coat tends to be fuzzy. Max "lost" his puppy coat very early. |
Cupcake is 14 weeks today and he has a lot of silver on his head...at a quick glance he looks like he is going bald...lol :D |
I think the hair on different yorkies grows at different rates. My ZoE has very, very slow growing hair. My last yorkie, Chelsea, could grow a full coat in a year....ZoE's 2 1/2 and still doesn't have a full-length coat. |
He sure is cute!!!! Heidi's hair started growing out silver about 13 or 14 weeks it seems like. They probably all have their own time frame. He is just adorable. Having a good little nap. |
Cooper will be 5 months old on April 7th, and he has a lot of silver on his head right now, and that hair is very silky. His ears and mustache are a deep gold, his feet are blonde and his body still has that fluffy puppy coat with a beautiful sheen to it. I can't wait to see what he will look like when he's all grown up! And did I mention that he has the longest, most beautiful eyelashes I have ever seen? Oh, how I would love to have lashes like like that...... |
Sam turned 5 months this past Friday and his body is still jet black. He has deep gold behind his ears, and his face is a hodgepodge of light tan, some black, and gold. His sister Piper Joy, on the other hand, is almost completely a cotton top. The hair on top of her head is pure white with black tips, and her back is breaking silver fast. |
