Yorkie Or Silky? 1 Attachment(s) Hello Everyone. I'm new to this forum, and I have a question I need any answers to. My husband and I are the proud mom and dad of an almost 1 year old Yorkie named Archy, and a 2 year old Minature Pinscher Arney we just rescued on Christmas Eve. We were at the mall a week before Christmas getting Archy's picture taken with Santa. Another lady had 2 Yorkie's with her, and she was talking to us asking about Archy. She said he looked more like a "Silky Terrier" instead of a Yorkie. She had 2 Yorkie's that were much much smaller than Archy, and they looked different. We were under the impression that he is a Yorkie. The breeder told us the same thing. I've attached a picture of Archy. Is he a Yorkie? or a Silky Terrier? |
He looks like a Yorkie to me:) When I 1st got my Ponce I googled pics of Silkys a lot to compare lol. I miss my baby:(. I have a odd ? for you how do you start a thread on YT? :). I became a member long ago but this is my 1st post :). Enjoy your baby Yorkies come in all sizes ears up & down(my Ponce's were down & he had a tail!) He was 5lbs, but my Mom's friend has a 8yr old named Elvis and he's 2lbs! |
Hi Archies mom, Archie and Ponce. Welcome to YT I think he looks like a Yorkie but I don't know much about silkies, I do know however that yorkies come in all shapes sizes and colours. Ponce, to post a new thread click on forums at the top of the page, choose the most relevant topic and when that loads you will see a box near the top that says new thread. Don't worry about asking as many questions As you need to and just click in and out of different parts of the site to see how things work, at the right hand side near the top of the page click on your name to see your profile too. |
Welcome! Archie is cute. I think he looks like a Yorkie. There are so many variations on their looks. |
Thanks for your replies! He weights about 11-12lbs. We thought he was a Yorkie, but we are so unsure right now. I've seen Yorkie's with straight ears, and much smaller faces. I had no idea Yorkie's come in different shapes and sizes. He is such a sweet sweet boy. So playful and cuddley! |
He could be a Sorkie or other combo of breeds including Yorkie and/Silky. Or either Yorkie or Silky, as each have so many variations. That is one precious terrier face, though. Wonderful Christmas present you got there. |
I, too, think he looks more like a yorkie. Silkys have longer, more wedge shaped heads and their bodies are typically longer than yorkies in relation to height. I've seen both yorkies and silkys with flop ears. My Huey is 1/2 yorkie, silky. 1/2 There are some websites like silky terrier club of america that have comparison photos and descriptions of yorkie vs silky vs austrailian terriers. Either way, he is cute as can be and welcome to YT. |
4 Attachment(s) Honestly? Looks like a Silky to me... but really, the odds are he's a Yorkie. There are a lot of badly bred yorkies out there (and that's NO offense)... he is freakin' ADORABLE!! That face just gets me. I often think and have been told Jackson is a Silky. I tend to think he is... he doesn't act like ANY yorkie I've ever met, his mannerisms are exactly like a lot of Silky videos (from breeders) I have seen. I spoke with a few Silky breeders and have somewhat gotten involved in the Silky world, they have never seen a Yorkie like Jackson before they tell me... It's hard to tell without seeing a shot of his body, too. But the problem is -- it's VERY easy to tell the difference between a well-bred standard Silky, Yorkie and Australian Terrier. BUT yorkies are so often bred by backyard breeders, and not bred to standard, etc, and then you get dogs of all different types and it's just so hard to tell. Here is Jackson for reference. |
Hi and welcome to YT! He is such a cutie maybe Carmen from stonehillsilkies can help answer that question she is a silky breeder. |
Do you have a side view pic of him? I see Silky traits to him, but I also think that if his hair on his ears were trimmed and I think the camera angle might be making his snout look longer than what it actually is. If you have a side view, could you post that pic, too? With the things I mentioned considered, I would probably say Yorkie. |

My JoJo is not your Yorkie looking dog. He has long legs and silky type fur. They say he is a biewer. I never heard of a biewer Yorkie. Maybe your Archey is a biewer Yorkie. Check it out. My JoJO looks kinda like Archey. Very cute but not your typical looking Yorkie. My Spud is your perfect Yorkie look. No Jo. |

Welcome. It's difficult to tell when you adopt a child versus purchasing a full blooded papered Yorkie from a registered and recommended Yorkie breeder. But because each animal brings so much love in to their new families, unless it matters to you, it doesn't matter to your new pet (he'll accept you just as you are!!!). I'm pretty sure Bailey is a bit yorkie and silky. No matter, because he is one awesome little guy. Enjoy! |
