Dramatic coat changes at 1 year old

Tinkerbell will be one year old next month. I was beginning to think she was finally going to settle into the color she currently was but I was wrong. Her back has been turning different colors constantly, making me think one month she was going to be darker colored after all, to the next month seeing it become light again. The variations of dark and light making her looked striped has been interesting. Well now at her roots I see a VERY light color coming in, like almost white. AND I got very worried today after her bath when I saw RED all around both her ears, after inspection I realized this is new hair coming in a very bright red. (It actually looked like blood when it was wet) I tried to take some pics, not sure if you can really tell. But I thought I would share them, I am so in awe at the changes. Also around her eyes I see this same bright red color starting to come in. Maybe she will be a redhead after all these changes. :p The next few months will be interesting to watch.

I know it is so fun to watch them change. My dogs backs are black with white roots that are getting kinda long.

My Bell is like that too! She is going to be three in January and she still has different color roots. Sometimes they look darker that the rest of the hair!! Go figure!!

I know its crazy! Bailey is 1.5 years old and his back is still very black, but his thighs are turning a gold color... I dont know what he's gonna end up looking like? His head is a real pretty gold color... who knows.

I love it the way Yorkies change colors. I have pictures of Gucci that she looks like a completely different dog. Sometimes she looks light and other times her hair looks darker. I love her gold color. :)

At what age do they stop looking so much like a puppy (which is adorable) and more like an adult yorkie? (which is even more adorable?) My babies are still young...almost 6 months and almost 5 months...but they are both changing colors on their heads...and their front legs...but pretty much still dark everywhere else :)

Mollie is exactly that same color. She will be 2 on Jan 8. I don't know how much you will be able to tell about her coat in these pictures.

Alfie has so many colours in his hair that we say he has Tartan hair lol but we think he looks fab!

LOL I remember first seeing Chanels hair under her bow and behind her ears and she has red streaks in there too - Yorkies hair is sooooo pretty isn't it ?

Thank you! I think her "coat of many colors" will be pretty whenever we get finished. The silver is just now starting to turn the darker color that it is supposed to be and she still has black ends that haven't been long enough to be cut yet, too. It's different to look at, because Muffin was black and gold.

Wow, thanks for the photos. I thought they gradually turn from black to blue. Not black, grey, blue, silver, dark blue, silver..... LOL :p

That red is what really threw me this morning. I had really thought she was going to stay a light blond.

Tinkerbell is such a pretty girl. :p I think it's almost magical at how their coat changes. It just continues to get prettier and prettier. :aimeeyork
