The FISH is the Ahi ;)

It's an Ahi Tuna

Thank you! And yes...it's a type of Tuna. The most common type...like in canned tuna. :D

I had to stop little Ahi from trying to lick the big Ahi. lol ;)

:eek: Wow, thats a good sized one. DH and I watch that Wicked Tuna fishing show, its pretty good- Catching those Tuna's looks pretty hard to do~~ :D

My husband would LOVE it if the fish here got that big! The kind we have in the pacific is the Yellow finned ahi. (The biggest my hubby caught is 170ish lbs.) The ones on Wicked Tuna is the blue finned ahi and is the choice for the people of Japan.(goes over 1000lbs!) It has more fat which is what's desired. I got the chance to taste some of that when my hubby and I went to Japan in 2010. :)

That’s interesting, the tuna I saw on that show had the Yellow on them. I was wondering why they sent the Tuna to Japan..?? Seems crazy don’t they have tuna there to catch? Why do they cut a piece at the end of the tail?

Here is a comparison of yellow vs. blue. They send the fish to Japan because it fetches the most amount in $$$. Thousands and thousands of dollars per fish! It's almost rediculous. They cut a piece at the end to test and check for freshness and quality. If you eat fish enough you can tell the difference. I personally can tell when my hubby catches a regular yellow fin vs. a yellow fin big eye. The big eye was extremely delicious. The taste and texture of the meat is unbelievable. lol :D

Ahhh I see the difference, I thought the blue was the yellow bc of the yellow tips it has. hehe I have never had tuna sushi, all I had it crappy tuna in the can! does your hubby fish for a living or fun?
