Maci in her Joey Cut...img heavy. So today I broke down and cut 3/4 of Maci's hair off! I gave her the YT Special.... Joey cut lol. Her coat is cottony and was probably 3-4 inches long/wavy. It wasn't giving me much problems as far as matting, but it was getting greasy/dirty looking really fast and so mainly I wanted to stop having to give her a bath every 2 days lol. THIS IS SO MUCH EASIER TO CARE FOR, yay! If you want to know how I did it at home read this paragraph, otherwise skip to picture time! 1. I took scissors and ran my fingers through her coat[back/sides ONLY, no legs/tail/head/neck] and cut the hair all the way down to my fingers. This left her coat at about 1in in length. 2. I took the electric clippers and snapped on the 1/2 inch guard and ran it all over her back/sides until it looked even. Then I switched to the 1/8 guard and did her WHOLE back and sides and belly. I used the 3/16 guard to blend her body/legs, and to shorted her chest hair. NOTE: I ran the clippers WITH the hair not against the hair. Going against the hair will produce a closer shave. It will still look the same just shorter. 3. I used the tiny whal beard trimmer w/the big guard [only came w/two and had no size on it] and did her paws making sure to blend leg to paw evenly. And did her bum as much as she'd let be. Also used this with no guard on the tips of her ears ONLY. I did nothing to her head/face/ears minus the tips. For her bum and back end I had to use scissors because she would NOT let me near there with the noisy clippers lol. So that's still in the process of being "perfected" and even looking at my pictures on here I can see spots on her side I need to even out. But this was my frist time grooming her, so I didn't expect to get it 110% right. http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/9463/img2466r.jpg http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/7210/img2477s.jpg http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/6079/img2474au.jpg http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/8659/img2478p.jpg |

Maci looks adorable with her new do!!! |
AWWWW you did a really great job on Maci, she looks just adorable. I love this cut. I have my little Willow done like this, at first had the groomer cut her head and face hair in a puppy cut , but now I'm growing her face and head back out but keeping her body like Maci's. |
She looks great. Why was I doubting you?:D You really did a wonderful job and you're going to like it so much better than before. So will she!:p |
Maci looks fabulous! You did a great job and she looks so good! |
Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying it! I've always trimmed my own dogs with scissors but NEVER had the guts to give them a total makeover/designer look lol. Can't wait for her tail and topknot to get just a lil longer! |
Great job! That will be so much easier in her winter wear ;) |
What a little cutie pie! You did a great job! I especially love that second picture where she is leaning over the tub! I love it when they get wet for bath time! So cute! |
You did a fab. job. Maci looks great. |
Aww..... You did a awesome job!! Maci is adorable!! |
she looks great! you did very well for your first time. Just a little tip from a mom of a coat coated girl as well, i don't leave the chest hair because Morgan wears a collar and the hair will mat. If Maci doesn't wear a collar or sweaters in the winter then she should be fine but if she does then you might want to trim that too. Also i think i read that you used a guard comb on her feet right? I'm not sur what part of her feet you used it on, but if you meant the pads then you don't need a guard comb. you can use the little whal trimmer and just run it flush with her pads to get that hair out from in between. I have Morgan in a similar trim. I clip all the black areas and leave the tan basically. I don't trim anything on her legs or feet (except the pad hair underneath) with the clippers. I do however use scissors to round the feet so she doesn't have, what i like to call, "who feet" (you know the who's from who-ville, LOL). Take your scissors and hold them at a 45 degree angle between the table and her paws. then just scissor in a circle around her paw. it cleans the look up better then clippers can. |
Love the new do! :thumbup:I gave Jack a bath today and he looked just like the second picture of Maci... a little drowned rat. ;)They are so cute and you really did a nice job on Maci's cut. It took me AND my husband to give Jack his cut at the beginning of summer. We haven't trimmed or cut it and it is now about 2-3 inches long. Growing it out for the winter so he will stay warm. |
Kalina... no I didn't trim her pads. She is active enough that the hair between her pads stays pretty short, I cut that with scissors once a month or every two months. I used a guard on a tiny whal trimmer to do the top of her feet and then used scissors to do as you said... trim around her paw in a circle so she doesn't look like a who or a clydesdale lol |
Thanks everyone!!!! |
