Yorkie Colors 1 Attachment(s) I heard someone say that lighter yorkies are less desirable. I don't know if they meant like for show dogs or something but I don't know why anyone could say that, it seems mean :( especially since you don't really know what color they will end up being. I LOVE Roxy's color, If I could pull it off I would totally rock the silver and gold look. |
She is very beautiful:) |
My Tiki is even lighter than Roxy, and I couldn't be happier about it. She's my little beauty. Roxy is very FOXY:D |
Roxy is beautiful, I wonder what color my Kelsey will be.:D |
My Tinkerbell is light, and very sparklely just after a bath. Not Show Dog colors, but then she is a pet so it's not a problem here. I don't think it's fair when breeders want to charge more for them, or advertise the non-traditional colored Yorkies as 'rare' and make up fancy names for the different colors that may show up when breeding Yorkies. At the vets' office last week, a lady called my Tink a 'Silky' Yorkie. I said she does have a silky coat, but she said no, it has to do with the coloring. She said breeders ask more for them bc they are 'rare'. So, I guess I have a rare Silky Yorkie! Wow. Haha. And all along I was thinking she had a color fault. Hmmm. :D The most important thing is that I love her, and she loves me, and that's all that really matters. |
Roxy is adorable! I think all colors are gorgeous in their own special way :) |
Roxy say's thank you :animal36 I think all the furbabies are perfect and personally I kinda dig the lighter look. Quote:

If someone said that, I am sure they were speaking of "show quality." The yorkie standard is a rich almost gun metal blue along with a rich tan which is not quite gold but close. :) So -- it is not a matter of "darker is better" -- in fact the solid black is not sought after either. Actually here is the exact wording: "Color of hair on body and richness of tan on head and legs are of prime importance in adult dogs, to which the following color requirements apply: BLUE: Is a dark steel blue, not a silver blue and not mingled with fawn, bronzy or black hairs. TAN: All tan hair is darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to still lighter tan at the tips. There should be no sooty or black hair intermingled with any of the tan. " But this is just a GOAL for dogs that are being shown and bred. If a person wants to breed their dog, they should ensure they are within the breed standard or the deviation is so slight that it can be compensated easily with the mate. It definately does not mean one dog is going to be any better of a pet just because of color. The absolutely sweetest yorkie I have ever seen was my first one -- a curly haired little moppet that had about 5 deviations from standard. But she had a heart as big as all outdoors and never met a person she didn't love. When looking for a pet -- a person should never overlook the yorkies who might not be perfect in standard as they may be the one that is PERFECT for their family's love! |
