Hi Everyone,
I just came across this site when researching about our little girl yorkie my husband and I are picking up TOMORROW!!!! We couldnt be more excited. We have a gorgeous little guy, Harley, who will be 7 in May, and when we pick up Riley tomorrow, she will be 8 1/2 weeks. Looking forward to looking at more pictures of everyone's cuties and learning new things on how to raise my first little puppy! :)

Welcome to YorkieTalk!! Can I ask you why you are getting your puppy so early? 8.5 weeks is far too young for it to be taken away from it's mother :(

Thank you for your concern :) but our breeder says after 8 weeks it is totally fine. The pups went to the vet last week and he agreed. She said if she didn't feel they were ready, we'd have to wait, but the other day she called and said they are all ready to go! We got our first yorkie, Harley, from the same breeder at the same age, and he was so great! She's been doing it for over 20 years, so we trust her totally :D

i just picked up my gal yesterday! lets go through puppy phases together :P

p.s i know that breeders will often send their puppies home at 8weeks but i think you should wait at least 12 weeks! I heard 12 is the norm. I picked up coco at 15 weeks.

You probably won't convince too many members here that a Yorkie puppy should go to its new home before 12 weeks and I would definitely questions a vet who would say different. Breeders who let them go early usually do so because this is the age when they start getting expensive - food, vet visits, puppy pads etc. - because the mama stops providing for them. But if you feel comfortable nobody here is likely to change your mind. Just make sure you get that first vet visit within a couple days of bringing the puppy home.

Also, I noticed in your first post that you referred to Riley as your first puppy and here you note that Harley was bought from the same breeder at the same age. Can you clarify? Just wondering if you are prepared for the demands this puppy will put on you for the first few weeks or even months.

Sweet babies. Welcome to the Newbie and her newbie. Know you are anxious but would be best to wait until 12. That Harley is quite the guy and that new baby is precious. Congratulations!
