Yes, you are all right. He is stealing my heart already. This is my first dog and I was extremely nervous. He came from a broken home and was infested with fleas--so I had to cut the hair very short. He is very sweet. He barks at all men, so we are definitely going to do some behavior classes soon.

The vet said he looks about 3-4 years of age. I know nothing about his past.

I wasn't sure if he was a full breed yorkie because he is rather tall. He weighs 9.9 lbs as well.

His name was Matt! I would love to call him Max, but I'm not sure I want to confuse him.

Thank you=) Do you know if the Canidae all stages is an ok food? I picked some up because I read some positive things on the forum but I didn't see a specific one for small breeds

If you still want to change his name (and I'm not saying this out of bias because I have a Max :D), you could give it a try. I changed my Teddy's name when he came home with me at 8 months old. His previous name also started with a T. DvlshAngel's boy was 1 year old when she changed his name from Bear to Kaji.

Just be consistent with saying Max, and say it often. Pair it with good things like petting, feeding, praising.

I agree! I changed both of my adults when I adopted them. Molly used to be Holly and my Max ;) used to be Austin. Use lots of positive reinforcements! For awhile I called Max "Austin Max" so that he was used to hear Max with his name and I eventually dropped the Austin, so now he knows his name is Max. :)

He is a cutie... and I definitely think he could pull off being a Max. ;)

he does look extra awesome tho!
when dexter was adopted, i changed his name from Becks (short for beckham) to Dexx/dexter; from day one he responded to it- but then again that might have just been because he wold run to anyone willing to love him!
he also has some 'barking at men' issues, even 2 years on (my own fault for not going to classes i supose, but once they sit down and he has a sniff hes grand)... classes are great!

I just adopted 2 8 month old male yorkies and they responded to their new names very fast. Max and Timmy.. they were both named Mickey for some reason so I had to rename one anyway... why not both I figured.

I couldn't be sure if he has a collar and leash or harness and leash. If a collar, a harness is much safer for him:)

That was a picture of before recieved him. His collar didn't even fit him and was in horrible condition. We did get a harness=)

Im so happy with him. He has very, very dry skin and a lot of "dandruff" looking flakes on him-even after a grooming. I really don't know what to do. I went to the vet but didnt even notice it when I went because that was before his hair was cut off..

I had plans on doing the same. I was calling Kaji, "Kaji Bear" for like half a day. He never responded to Bear and caught on to Kaji super quick!

OP congrats on such a cutie! I'm sure you'll show him what a happy loving home is all about. :)
