Aw He's adorable. How does he manage with the heat? I have to shave mine down in the summer because they just suffer too much.

Love his coat :thumbup:

I think I will let my guys hair grow like it should be.
(like a real yorkie) hehe:D

Beamer is quite handsome!!! I'm keeping Bentley in full coat too. It's not hard to comb, right Sylvia? Beamer doesn't look like he would mat easily. Give him a pat for me! Dyan

Heat doesn't seem to bother him. He can come in whenever he wants to - we have a doggie door, so he goes out when he wants to as well. But his coat is fine and silky, so that may make a difference.

I am working on his coat. I comb and brush him every day - and when I have finished, I take a soft bristle brush and brush him 100 strokes on each side. I think that is why his coat is getting nice and shiny.
He is only 2 years old, so I don't know how long his coat will get.

You sound like me with Bentley. Every morning he gets combed and then brushed with a bristle brush. Put the top not in and that's it. At night I comb him out before bedtime. Bentley is 1 yr. 5 months old so not to far from Beamer's age.

No it isn't hard to comb now I have the best comb - the grooming comb from Toplinepet.com.
He does get mats. But I comb him through every morning, and again in the evening making sure I get all through the coat to remove any tangles.
And sometimes I have to comb him again during the day when he comes in after he has been "gardening" LOL - he gets those sticker things in that if I don't get them out right away they will create mats.

yes, we do the same thing:) I use the Madan brush I bought from Toplinepet.com to get through any tangles the comb doesn't get through easily. Then when I have finished I use a Kent bristle brush to "shine" him.

I spray him with Miracle Coat conditioner before I brush and comb him.

Yikes, largest dogs we have ever owned were the Lhasa's.

I'm hoping I can get my husband (Bruce) to take over Beamers daily grooming for a while. I've got a detached tendon in my right shoulder and I see the orthopedic surgeon at 2.15 today. Of course I just have to be right handed!
It does hurt when I am brushing and combing Beamer, but he has to be taken care of. But if the surgeon says they are going to do the surgery I may be banned from using the arm for a while. I just can't see Bruce grooming him the same......

Oh, I am sorry to hear that! You must be in a lot of pain being it is detached...how in the world did that happen? Is there anyone near you that can comb Beamer out at least once a day? If Bruce does it, it's better than nothing...but I do understand how you feel as if you are like me I have a set way I do Bentley.

I will be keeping you in my prayers and I sure hope you won't need surgery...I don't know anything about tendons and such, maybe that's the only way to get it done correctly. Dyan

He is so cute! We have three silky coats but I use Biogroom Mink Oil as a finishing and it really shines them up. He looks pretty long for 2 - Teddy is about the same length and he'll be 2 in Nov.

just got back from the orthopedic surgeon. He asked if I wanted surgery or did I want to try cortisone injection first. So, I opted for the injection!
I don't know how I did it - but I did have a fall last year and fractured my left knee and tore the rotator cuff in my left shoulder. I have a feeling I did this at the same time, and it has only started being painful recently. I can't think of any other way I could have done it. But apparently it could also be caused by age related atrophy of the tendon. It's a b**ch getting old!

But will see how the cortisone injections work. If I need to have the surgery, apparently it is arthroscopic surgery so it will be minimally invasive.

Oh Sylvia that sounds so much better than surgery! I pray the injections do their work. It's weird how things happen, isn't it? You wouldn't think one thing has anything to do with the other. April 2009 I broke my hip...the very top of the femur before it goes into the socket just tripping off the ramp into my shed. Who would think such a thing could happen? But anyway, I am so happy you don't have to have surgery and you can still take care of little Beamer!! Dyan

Sylvia...maybe if you got Beamer a summer cut it would give your tendon time to rest and repair. Both of my kidz have summer cuts and they love it. Of course, like Beamer, they are in and out all day long and they can become quite a mess without it.

Beamer is a handsome boy! I wish you luck with cortisone. Is the surgeon going to put the arm in a sling for a couple of days afterwards? be4 I went on my honeymoon had one into my wrist of course the right dominant wrist... and I wrapped wrist up for a couple of days, and tried to use the left hand. It certainly helped me, that swelling went down a lot.

Now I try to use my left hand more. Still not as near good as the right.

I found you can cheat on the long hair - my Rita was always too hot so I parted her hair half way from belly to back, banded the top part up and clipped the 1/2 down and tummy - she was way cooler and you couldn't even tell the hair was missing unless she rolled over to have you rub her tummy! Also makes it easier to comb in the AM as I work and she went to the baby-sitter.

I was upset when the boarding kennel cut him down last November, it took several months for his coat to grow again.
I have arranged for his groomer to come over once a week, but I still need to brush and comb him daily - he loves his brushing sessions, he actually reminded me last night that he hadn't had his evening session.
But, if I miss any tangles I do know that his groomer will be here in the week, so I don't really have to spend the same amount of time.
And I think even with a summer cut, he would still get sticker things in his coat from the back yard, so I would still brush and comb him daily.

The cortisone injection helped yesterday - along with Lortab.

No, he didn't say anything about a sling.
the one thing I worried about the cortisone injection was that last year when I fractured my knee and tore the rotator cuff in my left arm, the surgeon gave me the cortisone injection in my knee. About a week later I had an appointment with my back pain management specialist, and he said he couldn't give me the usual injections then as I had recently had a cortisone injection and it was too soon!! I see him next week and I bet I will have to wait for my back injections because of having the cortisone shot yesterday. The surgeon's nurse said it shouldn't make a difference, but I remember last year having to wait on my back injections. (I get 6 in my lower back and a week later get 6 in my upper back)
