Dharma getting ready for the pool! 1 Attachment(s) Dharma in her new life jacket! She didn't really like the water....we're hoping that changes because her mom and dad are water rats! :p |
Oh, that is super cute. She is darling. |
She is so cute. I love her name. |
Very cute. It was a beautiful day for the water. |
Thanks everyone!!! Her name came from the TV Show LOST. :) She was shaking when we put her in the water. She doggy paddled to the edge and even bumped her nose on the edge! We took her out and put her in a raft, but she didn't like that either! She's only 4 months. Do you think that'll change? |
She is adorable! I think she will eventually get used to the idea of water. I would not force it and make sure every experience is a positive one :) |

She is a beautiful baby! I bet she will come to love the water. Reminds me of teaching my first boy to go for a walk. The first couple outings, he barely took 3 steps and didn't want any more of it. Before I knew it, we were off and walking a mile each morning. |
I had three Yorkies who loved to swim in the pool or jump in and float around on a raft when they were younger. When they got much older, they became a little more fearful, but still liked the water on their terms. Maybe just now in the beginning, hold her closely to you, and make Dharma feel secure. With my three little girls, I worked on getting them to swim to the stairs of the pool once they were able to swim. Each time I put them in the pool, I put them in a different area, faced a different way. I was right there ready to jump in if they needed me. They knew how to swim at this point, but I wanted to make certain that they could orient themselves and be able to find their way to the steps and be able to swim to safety. When you do start swimming with Dharma, you can be there holding her above the water and allow her to paddle her legs. I didn't use life jackets with them because I was right there with them. With the three of them, I only had to jump in two times to rescue them when they fell into the pool and went deep into the water. They came up on their own, and I wanted them to see that they could, but I also wanted them to see that I was right there for them and that they didn't need to worry. I never let them go by the pool without me being there with them. They loved walking along the edge, and sometimes one of them would push the other one in. It was never dull with three of them, and it was always fun and there was love all around. My little Gracie, our youngest baby, ran to the door several times a day and barked to let us know she wanted to go out. She ran to the pool, hopped into the stairs, swam around a bit, and then tore out of the pool and ran around the yard. She did this many times during the day just to cool herself off and play. She was an amazing little dynamo, who was so full of love and personality. Give your beautiful Dharma some time, and I'm sure she will love swimming with you. She's still a baby, and all of this is so new for her. Enjoy her! I am very happy for you. |
Love the picture. She looks so cute in her jacket. I think if you keep at it she will learn to like the water. We use to take my first Yorkie to the lake all the time and he would jump in and swim with the kids. He loved it. Maybe you can get her a baby pool to play around in so she will get the feel of it. |
she's too cute! |

Aww soo cute!! :p |
She shakes when we give her a bath too! We'll keep trying though!! |
She is absolutely adorable! I bet she will come to love the water, soon enough. :) |
She looks so adorable. I've never to tried to teach the dogs to swim in a pool, just lakes. but Razzle wasn't too keen on the water last summer when he was 6-8 months old and he shook and shivered, but last summer was a cold one too. This swimmer he's in the water as if he never had a fear of it!. He too wears his life vest, I just think he's safer in it than out of it. She'll probably grow to love just like her Mom and Dad |
What a face:) Adorable! |

Oh that's nice to hear!! We brought her in and held her close to us and just dipped her butt in and out as we walked across the shallow end and she was shaking and shivering. I was like she can't possibly be cold can she?! We took her out and let her sun bathe and tried again but got the same thing. We're just taking it slow!! Hopefully when she's older she'll be more comfy!! |
So cute! She will get used to the water if she doesn't take to it right away. With Catherine, we took her for just a few minutes the first time and worked her up until, over about 6 or 7 times to the water, she was swimming like a fish and loving every second of it! |
That's good to hear! Thanks! |
