Skin Issues Hi, I am new to the site so HELLO!! :) My name is Kerry. My husband and I have 2 Yorkies. 14 and 12 yrs old. My 14 yr old female is from a home breeder but has skin "pimples," if you will. Clear something comes out the if squeezed, sometimes blood. Our vet said nothing but you cna feel these bumps. Our 12 yr old male, obviously from a puppy mill. Obvious after we got him. He has such dry, itchy, red skin. They both constantly lick their paws lately also. We live in NY. We notice when the heat is on or the wood burning stove is o, the itch is worse. They both get baths, fish oil, etc. Any ideas to make anything better? Thanks!! :aimeeyork |
Have you thought about the food? My white rescue Pommie about chewed his feet off when I first got him. It took me about a year to finally come up with a food that he will tolerate. He can have absolutely no grains. Just lately my vet had me give him oat bran and he started chewing his feet again. How about the shampoo or conditioner you are using? My little Chipper have very dry cottony fur. I dilute the conditioner and leave it on instead of rinsing. |
From my experiences with indoor dogs, licking their paws or pulling at the hair on their feet is a sign of allergies. The vet prescribed benedryl for him and it did help. Also there is a shampoo that has an antiitch compound in it (I can't think of the name of it) You may consider changing the food they eat, vet should be able to help with this. Good Luck I know it's hard to see your babies suffer especially since they are seniors. I am sure you will get this problem under control, and a great big WELCOME from VA Sharon, Joey and Cabella |
