Is my dog a yorkie? Hi everyone, I've never posted here before so I hope I'm doing it right. Doobie is my little boy. I love him dearly. Doobie is 8 months and a lovely doggy. He' s calm when I'm calm and ready to play when its play time! I have no complaints at all! I do have a question though and was hoping to get everyones opinion. Recently, Doobie grew - alot! He doesnt weigh much, about 5 1/2 lbs but he's pretty long. He also has a not so flat back (not sure what that is called). I know the standard for a yorkie is flat back but I dont know if he's a different breed (Silky maybe) or maybe has a problem with his spine. Anyhow, i am trying to post pictures but it keeps telling me my file is too large?? i've never posted on a forum so not sure if i'm doing it right! please help! I have always wanted a yorkie and thought I purchased one so finding out he may not be a yorkie is a little disappointing. I love him no matter what but it's the point that I thought he was a yorkie. He doesnt have papers by the way. |
here are the pictures! 4 Attachment(s) I had to compress the file (something I just learned how to do). All opinions welcomed! thanks |
Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk! Doobie is darling and I am no expert, but he certainly looks like a Yorkie to me. Sounds like he has a wonderful personality and what a cutie. :) |

He looks like a yorkie to me too. My Biscuit was 12lbs and very long also.:animal-pa |
Welcome! Hi................Your little Doobie definitely looks all yorkie to me. Because of different breeding practices and because of the lines they come from, even though the yorkie standard says one thing, they do come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Doobie is adorable, looks like he's got a silky coat and at just 5 1/2 lbs at 8 months, I'd bet he will stay in or close to the yorkie standard in size (4-7 lbs). He looks to have long legs; is he tall? Maybe it's just the pictures. In any case, I've yet to own a "perfect" yorkie.........if there are any, but as long as our babies are perfect in our eyes, that's all that really matters. Doobie looks and sounds wonderful! Enjoy him! :animal-pa:) |
He is adorable and he looks like a yorkie to me:) |
I think he is darling too! He definitely looks like a Yorkie to me. I read a lot here that Yorkies come in all shapes and sizes. The pictures and your description sound a lot like my Charlie. He is about 5.5 pounds too. He grew a lot really quickly when he was about 6 or 7 months, but it seemed like his legs outgrew his little body. His back wasn't flat for a while because it his legs were twice as long as his body! His little body did catch up though and now he has a perfectly flat back. I wish I had a good picture of that to post for you (I'll look). Your little darling is so sweet though!! He's super cute!!! |

he's adorable - and yes a yorkie |
He looks 100% Yorkie to me. He reminds me of my Piper. She's AKC, leggy, long (as long as tall), silky, almost 2 years and weighs 5.5 lbs. When she was 7 months old I noticed that her back seemed hunched. Come to find out she had Legg Perthes (hip abnormality). Her back look hunched because she was in pain when she walked. |
Welcome to YT:) He definately looks Yorkie to me.. I notice that when Bentley has clothes or his belly band on he looks like a cat when they rub against your legs and their spines curve up...lol..does that make sense?? I don't have cats so don't know if there is a proper term for this.. Anyways, when he doesn't have anything on, his back is flat....Apparently he doesn't like wearing anything...:D |
Adorable yorkie!:) |
