My new little princess! 4 Attachment(s) I just joined this site a few nights ago while I was researching foods for my new puppy. Her name is Sophie and has earned the nickname piranha as she likes to lunge at fingers (any ideas on how to stop this would be greatly appreciated). She is not a purebred but fairly close. Her mom was a Biewer and her dad was a yorkie-poo, but the poodle was a few generations ago. She has suffered from mild hypoglycemia once since I have had her. She refused to eat anything or drink anything. A little wet food, puppy milk replacement and a phone call to the vet fixed that right up. I have finally found a food that she will eat. I believe she has a corn/wheat allergy has she has been itchy since we got her and been checked for fleas, parasites etc. I found a food that she will actually eat with no wheat or corn. So she is finally starting to gain weight. When we picked her up she weighed 1.3lbs at 8 weeks, then still 1.3 lbs at her 10 week appointment. She has her 12 week appointment on Thursday and I bought a kitchen scale to weigh her myself before the appointment...and she varies between 1lb 14oz an 2lbs 0.5 oz, she won't stay still long enough (lol). So I am guessing she is probably 1.9lbs at the moment. I added some pictures for everyone. The one with her and the other dog is the night I brought her home (with her big brother, pomeranian mix, Jackson), the one she is wet in was taken about a week ago I believe when she went swimming in the bathtub and apparently enjoyed it, the one on her back is how I found her one morning when I woke up (she is amazing at night, she sleeps 8 hours and only needs to go outside once around 4am), and the last one of her on my bed was taken tonight. She has gotten a lot more fur but has stayed pretty tiny. |

Hello, The food we have her on is Halo Spot's Stew wild salmon. On top of having problems with wheat and corn, she is incredibly picky when it comes to eating and kibble size. Her bout with hypoglycemia came from not wanting to eat any of the foods we had for her, including the one she came home with. (She started out with Beneful for puppies and the ingredients alone put me off of that food and well as the kibble size). This one she is actually willing to eat and gets excited when it is feeding time. We actually also have a bag of the chicken spot's stew for puppies, she doesn't seem to like it as much, but we use it for training treats at the moment as I don't know what kind of treats to use for her yet that don't contain wheat/corn and that she will like. PS Jackson, the pom mix, was supposed to be 5 lbs...20lbs later and nothing like the pom-a-poo he was supposed to be. We rescued him as a puppy from a backyard breeder that caged him all day long. When we got him home he was afraid of the grass, people, and hated crates. I still love him, even though he is nothing like he should be. A true sign of a untrustworthy person - you call to tell them that the puppy you just bought has giardia so they can warn anyone else/treat their own animals, and to ask them what he is really mixed with...and they disappear from the face of the earth after telling you he had to of contract the parasite from my house (we had brought the fecal sample to our vet on the way back from picking him up...). |
Welcome to the forum. Some of these puppies are really finicky eaters. But once you find something they will tolerate, it will be much easier. Sorry about the poor breeder's behavior. |
