they are great, nothin like that happens over here. suppose we never get weather anyway lol |
Absolutely darling!! I love Great Danes! Afghan hounds, too. My family had an Afghan when I was growing up, and Gallahad was the sweetest, gentlest dog! Very rarely barked... so unlike Mademoiselle Sophie! :D |

This is what I googled on the Great Dane The Great Dane has several Health conditions that may be problematic in some lines. Buying from a reputable breeder as well as ensuring the puppy and the parents were health checked before deciding to buy is very important. The common issues with the breed are: Gastric torsion - also known as Bloat, is common in large, deep chested dog breeds. Feed several small meals and limit Exercise after eating to prevent this condition. Skin Allergies - this can be a very big problem with the breed. Carefully select any skin products or dog shampoos and watch for any signs of irritation. Skin tumors - this may be benign or malignant but do need checking and treatment. cardiomyopathy - heart conditions leading to possible heart attacks and respiratory problems. Canine hip dysplasia - ensure both parents are certified as free from CDH CVI - also known as Wobbler's Syndrome. Poor coordination and painful movement, may be corrected by surgery and Aggressive medical treatments. VWD - von Willebrands Disease will result in bleeding, similar to Hemophilia in humans. Life Span:6-8 years That's a hard one they are such beautiful dogs!!! I think if you found a rescue that would be great or even something on Craigs List.. but its like you said its a BIG commitment to getting such a large dog, but probably worth it!! My boyfriend had a Massif before I met him, and he loved that dog but he got really really busy and Tom (dh) didn't think Maximus was getting the attention that he needed, so he had to give him to a Massif resuce :( To this day DH misses Maximus!! That's why I was diggin in our things and found this pic and I put it on the fridge :D He was 6 months old in that pic lol DH said at 2 years he was 150!!!! Can you imaging!!! |
