my puppys 9 weeks old as of this past monday.. he weighs 1lb 1/2 how do i chart his weight? for full grown? | Yes, the standard is 7 pounds and under but that doesn't mean they all have to weigh that. A larger Yorkie can be a result of many different things ... there are a TON of backyard breeders, puppymillers, etc whom breed Yorkies without knowing anything about their background, etc. Basically, they breed just to breed and a lot of times you end up with larger pups who are out of standard, etc. Yorkies also USED to be larger but the humans bred them down smaller and smaller throughout the years so a Yorkie may be carrying a gene from a long time ago causing a yorkie to grow bigger. Jackson is 12.5 pounds and his parents were 8 and 9 pounds. He's not fat at all, he's actually quite skinny, he's just a bigger yorkie!
The original Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie), is known as the "Broken-Haired Scotch Terrier" was a 12-to-14lb.dog. |
