biggie...totally living up to his name 3 Attachment(s) I just got him 3 weeks ago. He is 11 weeks. I was hoping for a cuddler but he is a maniac...always jumping running playing ...even biting...but he is my little baby. He was introduced to some bigger doggies and at first was a little timid but then he was initiating the play/chase. He seems to fear nothing...including jumping off my bed !! ahh... I do have questions concerning training. I have tried to do the crate method but he has so much energy that when I let him out he goes nuts and no matter how many times i put him on his peepad he runs off or tries to bite his way through me. he was doing well but now when i put a peepad in the crate he tears it up ending up with white fluff everywhere...seeming to have a new hate for the things. He either avoids them or chews them. I dont know if i should just keep him doing the crate thing or try to let him run around to tire himself out. I have read numerous training books, and magazines...but they dont tell you how to deal with the rebellion. Im trying to be the best mommy possible and raise him right so if anyone has dealt with a crazy little pup please...give me some tips! |
LOL he's not being rebellious he's being a Yorkie!:p Chances are this will continue to take place for about another year. Puppies have one thought in mind to play, run and tear up paper. Take him for walks, tire him out, play in the house with him, train him to sit, lay down etc. He's only 11wks don't expect much but keep working with him, they are smart and catch on fast. They just never seem to run out of energy at this age. How about confining him to one room with the pee pad instead of the crate? I no Buddy would tear up anything paper even today. I never used the pad so perhaps someone else will better assist you. Good luck, have fun and keep the faith;) P.S. He's adorable. |
thankyou for the feedback! I ordered him a portable exercise pen Titan Portable Animal Exercise Kennel/ Pen | Overstock.com thats it ^ I hope that will work...since I dont have any extra rooms in my apartment and I share with 3 other people. Ive been working on his commands and using some healthy treats but i want to maybe switch them up with possibly some fruit veggies or grilled chicken. I know i should never give him scraps but these would be fresh and healthy I assume. by the way he can already sit, laydown, give paw, and rollover! it was so exciting to see him respond to me like that. I have never trained any animals before so everything is a new experience. Also...i thought yorkies ears are supposed to stand at a point? will his eventually do that? |
What a cute little guy! Hang in there it gets better. He's a baby still ! |
He is sooo cute! :D |

Something else I have heard about the xpens is to not let them know they can go over it- just an FYI so I would use the door to get him out and move a post for you to go in and out. That way you might be able to avoid him going over it. |
Congratulations! Sounds like you got some good advise to follow. Good Luck, and remember, patience and consistence! It does take some time. |
