Heart Attack!! 2 Attachment(s) I catch Beau all the time sticking his body through the railings upstairs, keeping abreast of what's going on downstairs with my 4 boys! It is about 12 feet to the ground below! I don't want to make a big deal about it because I don't want to scare him, but I want him to get back!! I have told my boys not to come up from behind him! He has got to know it's a long way down, but he has no fear!!!! |
OMG!!!! He is so adorable.:D I would be scared also. I know they have no fear. My Abby goes flying off of the sofa like she is superdog. I can't imagine what I would do if I saw her doing what your little guy does. |
Oh my he is brave!!!! We had to put a fence all the way around our deck because Harley saw a squirrel and did a superman off the deck! I know how you feel!!! |
What I have seen a lot of people do use out door screen you can get from the hardware store you will not need to keep it there forever only untill you can train him not to go near the railing. On it's me or the dog the TV show what she does is any time the dog does near the railing make a very loud noise this way he associated the railing with the unplesant noise and will stay away. This will take time on your part, it is not going to happen over night. I hope this helps you. |
GREAT advice! Quote:

He is adorable.... I saw one of my guys do that once and I was so nervous..... after that I blocked it off...does not look as pretty but at least I dont have to worry.... |
OMG, I'm freaking out just looking at that picture!!! We have a stairway to the lower level like that, and yes mine do the same thing every so often. Scares me to death. I've been trying to find something to use; Walmart online has something that is actually made for that purpose to keep toddlers safe, but I think the previous posters' idea of door screen material is a much less obvious way of solving the problem. I might just have to go get some today. |
I have door screen material between the rails of my front porch, near the steps. Rebel used to be AWFUL about sliding between the railing, jumping on the stairs and escaping to the front yard. I used thumb tacks to attach the screen - and he doesn't even attempt it anymore. It's cheap, and you can't tell it's there from the front of the house. |
Just seeing those pictures freaks me out!!! That little dare devil! |
Don't look down! What an adorable boy! I'm not surprised you're so worried though.....these little guys think they're invincible don't they! :D xx |
I have to say first that Beau is absolutely gorgeous! What a beautiful face!! We have sort of s similar problem. My boys don't sit on the ledge like Beau is (Heart Attack is right!!!), but they love to take their Kong upstairs and push it off the ledge with their noses. They figured out if it bounces hard enough (which is does from the fall) the treats sometimes break and pieces fall out. Little stinkers! They stick their heads thru the railing to watch the Kong fall and then run down the stairs after it. Maybe I should be more worried about getting bonked in the head with a Kong! |

Thanks for all the great ideas. Beau already knows the command "get out of there" from always getting in the pantry, so I will start using that and see if I can get him to stop. Otherwise, it's off to the store I go!! :) |

OMG!!!! I LOVE IT!!! It never fails to amaze me how intelligent these little stinkers are!!! I'd be worried about Kong bombs myself!!! TO the OP: OMG...Your BEAU is DARLING!!!! I just LOVE LOVE LOVE that precious face!!! Such an adorable little teddy bear....:animal36 I agree with what others have said....that Yorkies are fearless...and really think they are invincible!! a 12 ft fall!!! OMG...thats scary...I would definately take measures to keep him from getting between the bars... Not really sure he would ever risk a jump...but he could certainly slip and fall...it only takes ONE time to step to close to the edge..and off he will go!!! I hope you are able to make it safer for your precious baby boy!! I wanna kiss that darling face off!!! :D |
We have a balcony outside our bedroom that has a far drop below. I would NEVER trust my boys not to jump through that railing if they saw a rabbit or squirrel. They jump first and think later. What we did was buy clear plexiglass from Home Depot, and nailed it to the railing. It looks good and the boys can look through it. And I am not a nervous wreck! :aimeeyork In the meantime, I would put up cardboard or something that would prevent him from looking over. |
OH! Scary, indeed! On the other hand, he's gorgeous! He is very similar to my Silvia's color, which I hardly ever see. Was he the standard black/tan when born, or was he born blue? |
