PUPPY CUTS for wavy hair silver yorkies. Hi!... I have a one year old yorkie...named Izzy...some of you probably have seen my posts around here. Anyways, I have been recently wanting to get her a summer look and get her groomed to a puppy cut. The problem is that she doesnt have the normal silky hair that other yorkies have she has cottony wavy hair. And she's like a bright silvery white and tan. She has floppy ears I want her to look like a puppy like a little fluffy teddy bear. I dont want her hair soooo short that she looks like a boy or odd. I just want it fluffy and soft and a bit shorter. I also dont want it to be super sharp cut...You know what I mean...sorta fluffy all over not precise cut. Anyhoo...I also wasnt sure about her topnot I want her face round and fluffy I dont want her to have a long beard...(lol beard) but I still want her topnot to be long enought for a bow to be put in and stay in. Im so afraid that the groomer will make her too short and then I will be super disappointed... So....My question is does anyone have a yorkie that has soft cottony hair with floppy ears and a white coat with a puppy cut if so could you post your pics so that I can see different styles and whether or not it will look good on izzy...THANKS:) |
Hi, orangepiece! Thor does not have floppy ears, cottony hair or a top knot, but he IS silvery and he gets a lot of compliments on his hair cut. If you want to check him out, click on my name to the left. I have a picture of him on the main page that shows his face off very well. |
Thanks I will |
AWWWWW!! soo cute. absolutely adorable thor!!!:D SO CUTE! LOL. I bet Izzy would look so adorable with that cut. I originally tried to grow it long but because it is so cottony and soft it really didnt grow long... Anyways I almost feel like Im cutting my own hair LOL...but Thanks I think I may try this. :) |
3 Attachment(s) Gracie Ruth has cottony hair so it isn't 'fluffy' at all. She also has the added problem of being a very small framed dog. So if I cut her hair too short she looks like a bobble-head dog.:p I do a modify puppy cut. Lisa cuts her body leaving her hair about 1" long. Her legs are left a little longer then 'normal' and I have her beard/mustache trimmed shorter, but leave her topknot and ear hair long. |
i just gave mine a westie cut i think its cute when his hair grows he looks like a wooly mammoth! |
Layla is a wavy haired silver yorkie as well. The picture in my avatar is of her puppy cut last year. If you're interested in more pictures I can post some more when I'm home from work tonight. I kept her top knot because I like putting bows in her hair :) |
I am also looking to cut my girl's coat a bit but I cant make up my mind what style! I like the long coat and dont want anything too drastic and I want to keep her hair long enough on he head for a top knot. Well, a pony tail anyway! lol Maisie has a good, strong coat that doesn't really tangleso I'd imagine my options a vaste! Any suggestions anyone? |
Bria just went to the groomer for the first time on Sat I got her "beard" cut pretty short. I also got her hair on the top of her head cut because she couldn't see. I asked the groomer to leave enough up there so if i wanted to put a topnot in i could. You can check out the pic in my profile. the red thing in her hair is bow its just kicked to the side cause shes HATES topnots. |

Hmm... Im thinking more and more that I like izzy's body longer. Its longer right now because Ive never cut it. And its ussually wavy looking which makes her look so adorable. But her face....I dont really want it to be a structured puppy cut...I mean... I want it her face to actually look like a puppy face...hmmm... Bria do you have an pics of your cut? Linz06 Im gonna check out your pics too |

My little Chloe is 9 mos. old & I'm trying to figure out what kind of cut 4 her. her hair isn't cottony but i like what you're describing. I want her to look all cuddly like a puppy cut, but I also want to leave her top long so I can put a bow in it. |

this is funny i just got a yorkie in dec and i think she is going to be silver too and her name is laylah i have alot of questions would you mind helping me |
My Baxter is a year and a half blonde wavy haired Yorkie. He is very active so I try to keep his hair simple. I gave him a short summer cut and his face all the same length as his coat. It was adorable. He looked like a little teddy bear and easy to manage. Don't have that pic on this phone unfortunately. |
Hi. I'm new here and I see your original post is quite old but I had a Yorkie with silver cotton hair that I kept in a puppy cut year round. As soon as I figure out how it shrink file sizes I can send you several pics (if you're still interested). |
Hello, I also just got a Yorkie in October and will take him for his first cut next week. I am so scared! LOL I do not know how I want his hair done. Confused if I want him to have a topknot or to just give him a puppy cut and have it short everywhere. A little concerned because I read that when you cut around the eyes the hair can grow back quickly and poke their eyes. So not sure if I want to grow out the hair on his head and keep the body short... He also has fluffy hair and the hair on his head is coming in completely gray/silver. He's looking like a stressed old man! haha Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, how long should topknots stay in? |
Marie Elise, I'm certainly not an expert, but I found that in between hair cuts, my dog's hair between her ears would grow down into her eyes. If I could do it all over, I would get her used to a top knot from an early age then keep head and body with modified puppy cut. My girl had bigger ears too so if her ears weren't clipped, they would flop down in a funny way |
Thanks so much for the advice Missmybabygirl! I think I will go with the topknot next week. His hair is pretty much going towards his eyes now and I think his hair grows fast. This will probably be the best solution. |
