Yorkie or Silky? 3 Attachment(s) This guy was in terrible shape (matted, ticks, burrs) and skinny as a rail when my sister found him running out in the country where she lived. She thought he would make a good dog for mom, but he's too young and active to suit her, so he's now with me and my two dogs. We took him straight to the vet (the works) and then to the groomers and he's putting on weight and seems to be coming along really well. He was scared to death when we got him. I'm sure he had been abused, vet said he had a broken femur that had healed on it's own, so he has a slight limp, but he said it wouldn't be any problem. Anyway the vet and groomer said he was a yorkie, but I'm wondering if it might be a silkey. He was 6 lbs. when I got him and now he's up to about 7.4 lbs. and stands about 9-10 in. at the shoulder. The groomer had to cut a lot of his hair, but it's starting to grow out. So what do you think, Yorkie or Silkey? |
Okay, I'm just taking a stab at this because I'm no expert, but in my opinion he looks like a Yorkie. Maybe he's a bog guy. Mine is 8lb 10oz. Just my thought! He's cute! :p |
I think he looks just like a yorkie - poor little guy - you are a good person for taking him in and I bet he feels like he just got into heaven. |
i believe he is a yorkie. |
I don't know, but he sure is cute. At one time on this site I had a comparison of yorkies and silkies. I'll try to find it. Is he teething or did your vet estimate his age? |
Yorkie vs Silkie Gotta be a Yorkie!! In pic # 1, he's got his tongue in his nose. ALL mine (6) have this type of radar, that allows them to make a direct hit in my nose from clear across the room :p !!! Suz |
He is a Yorkie . |
You're such an incredible person to welcome him into your home and save his life. He looks like a cute Yorkie to me! |
This is a Silky Terrier Rescue site. Perhaps they have some info that would help you in determining which he is. http://members.tripod.com/~SilkyRescue/ |

Thanks everyone.....I also have two other rescue dogs. Skipper is a Pom/spitz mix and Toby is a terrier mix. He just loves playing with my dogs, especially Toby. My cat Gypsy tolerates him, but has certainly let him know who's boss. And I raise Amazon parrots as well.....also have a Moluccan Cockatoo and an African Grey. He's not sure what to think of the birds yet, but mostly just ignores them. Glad I found this site, cause I have lots of questions about Yorkies. :D |
Congratulations for taking care of these rescued ones . You are a superb person . I have 3 rescued little ones at home and they are my pride and joy . |
Wow! Your pets are beautiful and so is your heart! :p I know you don't care which he is - silky or yorkie - that it is just curiosity. As I said, he is a really cute guy and I'm so glad he found you! :D |

Poor thing was so scared when he first came here, and I felt so bad for him. How anyone could abuse such a helpless little guy is beyond me, but I've learned there are some people that just shouldn't have dogs. I'm worried now about the dogs next door........the people have moved and said they were coming back from them. But they only took one dog and left two, and took all the dog bowls and left them with no water. I've been going over there and taking care of them for two days, but I'm afraid they are not coming back. :( Well, I have to go out to the bird building to pass out fruits and veggies. I'll check back later. |
OMG! People do that here, too. I don't think they have a conscience. Too bad we can't give the people that do these things the same kind of treatment! :( I hope you hang around and keep us updated about your little guy and your other pets. :) |
You are an angel!!!! It is so wonderful you took him in and he is enjoying a pampered happy life now. I truely couldn't tell you the difference in a Yorkie and a Silky, I am just glad there are people like you in the world! |
