LOL...on the name! Can you imagine how hard it is to name a pet after you've taught for 30 years? I had this mental image of seeing a former student and them hearing I had named my puppy their name! I could see reactions from "ahhhhh" to "She must have thought I was a dog" depending upon their love of animals. It brought back memories of teacher friends' struggles to find a name for their babies...LOL
We went through several "pet" names where I was so sure, I had the id tags with our phone number engraved. First there was Pebbles, then Muffin, then Ruffles, etc. We finally decided on Taffy and decided we were done. (Although Ruffles was tempting and during that phase, she sure got some cute outfits all complete with ruffles...LOL)
Friends got so amused with us that their greetings on the phone or in emails always included the question, "What's the name this week?" And just imagine, I didn't even have to worry about how hard it would be to write or spell! (Guess it's quite obvious we've never had children!)
We are so eager and ready for her to come home. Although it's alot to put upon a little puppy, I think our lives are going to completely change. I know our retirement years are going to get a burst of energy we've been lacking. My guess is that we'll also find ourselves in more of a daily rhythm if what I've read about their sense of time is correct.
I know it's the first time since our retirement that we've looked so forward to a date on a calendar! Even vacaton plans have not generated this much anticipaton and excitement! |
