She has such soft eyes. You can tell how a good a dog is by the eyes.... Her hair is beautiful too.... ignore if you don't want to answer, but where did you get her from? She's perfect! I love her hair...the color is beautiful |

Ella is a Yorkie mix - the vet thinks half Yorkie, half Maltese (a little Morkie!). I actually rescued this one in Miami. I write for doggie publications and a website and I went to Animal Services in Miami to interview them about puppy mills, as there had been a great deal of puppy mill busts at the time. They showed me Ella Bean who was rescued in one of these busts, but who was too sick to go to rescue. She had a huge gash in her thigh, Kennel Cough, an upper respatory infection, she was malnourished and had really severe hypoglycemia and her tail had been severed after it was caught in a metal cage. They were going to euthanize because they hadn't found anyone to foster her in that condition. I decided too give it a shot - I fell in love with her eyes. Three weeks of manually hydrating her round the clock every 2-3 hours...feeding her by hand and treating all her wounds...it was a long road but now she is the happiest little girl. She has a sense of humor and always makes me laugh. She is tough as nails and at 2 lbs, totally bosses my 12 pound Cavalier around. She is friendly and social and loves people and other dogs. She inspires me every day and has taught me that love and patience can overcome any adversity! She is my little miracle! |

She was between 3-4 months when I got her and now is about a year. I am having a little birthday party for her next Sunday to celebrate her 'miracle'. She is an angel, I was just in the right place at the right time! She has NO fear of humans. Its hilarious. At the dog park, I often see her running up to strangers and dancing on her hind legs, wagging her teeny tail, like 'Pet me! Pet me! I am adorable!' I swear, she is amazing. She is sensitive to being touched where she had the big cut on her thigh and is scared of loud noises and storms - but thats it. She also tends to run from children...But if they are calm and quiet she will let them pet her. She likes things calm. :p |

Awww I'm glad that Ella is doing well. Are you going to that Yorkie meetup in july? I'm going to try to come up with the $$ to get there.... I also need to learn how to do highways. Izze wouldn't do well in a bag for that length of time. |

Thanks! She makes me smile every day. I am amazed that each day, she still seems to show more and more vivacious personality. We had another 'first' this morning! I woke up to her lying on my chest, eyes open, staring at me as if she was waiting for the alarm to go off and for me to wake up! Then she started dancing around on her hind legs once the alarm did go off! She is SOO cute! |

I am so sorry for your loss. I always reccomend the book Dog Body, Dog Mind to those who have lost a furkid. Its an incredibly easy read and it provides a great deal of insight into how dogs experience their relationships with humans and how dogs deal with death, grief and dying. These lil' ones have a powerful place in our homes and hearts and when it is their time, it is never easy. The gifts they give during their time with us are so large, its amazing to think they come from something so small! Ella Bean is about 2 lbs, but to me, she is larger then life! You know, in the long run, even though my marriage ended and I am deeply saddened by the loss and everything, moving to Miami was not without its benefits. If I hadn't followed my ex down there to care for his parents, I would not have made some of my most important friends and professional contacts and most important, Ella Bean and I might not have found one another. Pain is not without its silver lining... |
How very true... there is a purpose for everything we encounter good or bad - and most often, if we allow ourselves to be objective with the "less than ideal", we can eventually see good that comes of it.
