Hello, I'm Buster's mommy! He's a purebred Yorkie and is 4 and 1/2 months old and weighs 4.7lbs. He's a wild little guy and the only problem we are seeing so far is that when he plays he likes to bite. I'm trying to get him out of that so that he doesn't think that it's ok and do it to people that come to visit. I got him on our vacation to Germany and he's adjusted very well to his new home. I've grown up with yorkies and have always loved them but this is my married families first yorkie. He has already gotten attached to me and I'm trying to get him used to being apart from me so that we don't have the whole separation anxiety. He was already potty trained but every once in a while he has an accident. I hope to get to know all the other wonderful yorkie mom's and dad's in this forum!!

Hi, welcome! I am very new here too (just joined yesterday... :p ) I find that his is agreat place with lots of god advice & friendly people.

Buster is lovely, I love the pic with the blue toy...

Hi Buster's Mommy and welcome! :) He sure is a cutie and WOW, what a great souivener from Germany, doesn't get any better than that.

You are blessed to have had the ability to grow up with Yorkies, I am on my second Yorkie and will be the only breed for me till the day I die, I absolutely love the breed!!

You mentioned biting as he plays, well my only suggestion is to give him a command when he does bite and then ignore him for a bit. When he has calmed down and being good give him attention. If he begins to bite again, start the command and ignore training again. I have found that attention is what these Yorkies thrive on. Being ignored is not their favorite thing in the world. I am sure he will learn that biting is not an approved behavior in no time at all.

I am loved by Schatzie who is almost 9 months, she is the sunshine of my days!! :p

Welcome! I can't tell what he's licking there, but PLEASE don't feed Yorkies or any other dogs chocolate, as that can be lethal! If he bites, give her a stern NO, and perhaps offer up a chew toy or a stuffed animal for him that he CAN bite on without fear. :)

Thank you all for the great advice so far. FastEddie, Don't worry he didn't get to eat the ice cream it was just to take the picture. My husband kind of flashed it in front of him when I flashed the picture. I know not to feed them things like that but thanks for the advice. :)

Okay! Good to hear, we want to make sure we can avoid any unnecessary emergency vet visits! The second day after we got Yoda, I fed him a little tiny bone (which I thought would be fine for him), which got lodged in his throat for a little bit, and we had to rush him to the vet that night around midnight, as he couldn't get it out. Luckily, the vet found that the bone finally did get through down his throat...

Another thing you can use for a chew toy is a used sock, as many Yorkies around here like to play tug-of-war with 'em. :)

I'm sorry to hear about what happened to Yoda. I haven't even wanted to try to give him anything because I'm scared that it will be too big or not good for him at all. :( And he already loves to drag our socks out of the dirty clothes basket through the side holes and he hides them all over the house. For some reason he only like the dirty ones but I've tried with an old sock that was clean. Oh well, I'll probably be finding socks forever!! :D

Hi! Welcome Buster's mommy! You will love it here. Great people and great advice. I can totally relate about Buster pulling out only the dirty laundry. My Bo (3 1/2 months old) has a new nickname...panty raid. I'm sure you can guess why. Thankfully he hasn't tried this cute little trick with company in the house. It's so funny, but he sticks his head up and runs like the wind with them in his mouth and he's hard to catch!! :p

I totally understand about the raiding the dirty clothes, and it never fails they think they can carry the biggest article with no problems. We've also had a problem with our shoes. I was just wondering if anyone else is having or has had that same problem. Right now we live in an apartment and we can't leave our shoes outside our door cause they will disappear so now they are on the kitchen table that we don't use. It's like a Breakfast table but it's never used so our shoes go up there. I don't like that so I wanted to know what was a good way to get him to quit taking our shoes with him to his hiding place? :confused:

Welcome, Buster'sMommy and Buster!! He sounds like a little "Yorkie Clown" already! We also would take the "illegal" object from Toto and would hand her something that belonged to her to chew on! Fortunately, even at 18 months, she still isn't big/strong enough to drag shoes around but occasionally "gives it her best shot"! :) One of her all time favorite things is still one of my husband's handkerchef's that he tied a couple of knots in and gave her when she was a baby and first started "laundry diving"! She nearly always came out with something that belonged to Patrick! The only time we have ever actually lost her was when she was still really tiny and I was sorting laundry ... found her tangled in a sheet! :eek: I was mortified!!

It's tooo funny when they do that! Yesterday when I was using the vaccuum, Toto was watching and running and playing ... the living room floor had toys everywhere! I just kinda "nudged" them in a pile over toward her toy box and picked them up all at one time before I cleaned in that area. All the time she was watching me like a hawk ... when I began to clean the carpet in our office, I noticed she had left a toy in there too. Before I could pick it up or "nudge" it out of the way .... she sneaked up, grabbed it like lightening and ran as fast as she could to her toy box!!! It was sooooo funny! Now, if I can teach her to pick them up and actually put them IN there ... that will be quite a trick!! ;)

I can't tell you how many times I have said "Bo and Woody (my schnauzer), pick up your toys!!"
We have a basket and brass pot that we toss the toys in. Their toys are usually thrown all over the great-room 'cause that's the room where we spend the most time.
