Best Way to clean teeth Hi! I bought ruby a toothpaste a long............ time ago and tryed to brush her teeth but she really didn't let me scrub. All she did was waitfor me to stop for a second and she would lick and eat the paste which I don't understand why then she doesn't like to have a Colgate :) . Can anyone tell me some easy way of doing this without having to got to the vet for this service. |
It's not fun to have to "fight" them to brush their teeth...but that's why starting them young really does help. Sully used to hate it but he really does put up with us doing it now. Junebug actually posted a great post about how to clean your yorkie's teeth http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9761 Thot it may help ya. ;) |
Bruce is even worse, but he has many many dental health issues! He hates the doggie toothpaste and hates the brush even more! All we are able to accomplish is brushing off a couple of teeth a day with warm water and the brush that slips over my finger. Otherwise he bites fingers hard!!! To make up for this I have decided that Bruce will have his teeth ultrasonicly cleaned as reccomended by his dentist and I give greenies every other day (only feed these under supervision). We are also trying Nolvadent Dentifrice solution that kills plague & bacteria in the mouth as a rinse everyday. Basically I hold his head steady and give it a squirt everyday. Not as good as brushing but it helps! |
Best way to clean teeth ? Take a valium first. :D :D :D I can say that only ONE of mine do it willingly...Chanel. Cheri, my youngest, is stronger them me when it comes to the dreaded TOOTHBRUSH. I'll just say good luck ! |

I recommend using a peice of gauze. Mine wont sit still for anything, but Dawn told me to try gauze, so I did and it worked wonders! I got all the plaque off and it wasnt hard because I just wrapped it around my finger and put a little paste on :D |

I am glad to read this post - I, too, bought the girls a toothbrush when we first brought them home, but THEY WON the battle!!! I gave up even though I swore to myself I was going to take care of their teeth since our 15 1/2 yorkie lost several of her teeth. I need to get back on this!!!! Think I will try the gauze. |
If I'm not home..I'm out buying Gauze! LOL Quote:
I have a toothbrush for Sophie..and its a big game..lol She is young yet..but...lol I also have a finger brush...but thats still tricky... The gauze...wow..I think I could even do that! ;) :) |
I have a really stupid question...what is scaling teeth? Is that like a cleaning they have at the vet? One more question...is the outside of the teeth all we have to brush or should we get the inside too...Maddie is pretty good when I do the outside, but trying to do the insides, she goes nuts! Thanks for the tooth brushing tips! I had missed this and just now saw it! |
It is very hard to brush Gucci's teeth. She fights me but I brush her teeth inside and out. Most of the time I end up scratch cause of her trying to escape. I got a liquid solution to add to the water that clean the tartar from her teeth. |

Brush Inside and outside just like we do for ourselves. |
My vet told me to use a peice of old panty hose to wrap around my finger. It would work as well as the gauze. Just another option. |
