First Teeth Cleaning at Vet We got behind in cleaning 4 year old Samson's teeth. My daughter who is a very knowledgable dog owner with lots of experience says Samson's teeth need to be cleaned at the vet. We understand they will put him under and he will be at the vet all day. We are concerned about this and want to know any special things we need to know and any questions for our vet who says they have an experienced person doing the work under supervision of the head vet. This is a pretty professional clinic so we may not need to worry too much. Thanks for any suggestions and or warnings. Concerned daddy for my baby Samson, Don |
Hi...That's smart to ask questions and your baby sounds very loved. I know they'll do bloodwork first to make sure he'll be ok under the anesthetic - but as with all surgery's it's always a risk. Teeth cleaning is very common and I'm betting your clinic knows what they're doing and won't proceed unless the bloodwork comes back OK.... I wish I could help more - I've only been thru this process a few times and am no expert on it - just wanted to say I hope it goes well and think of those sparkling teeth he'll have when it's over. |
Yorkie First Teeth Cleaning. Many thanks for such a comforting reply. The blood test has been offered by the vet and your comments are assuring and I will do just that. Will keep everyone posted on the event. Now, after the procedure, I wlll be commited to a regular teeth cleaning routine. It is not cheap somewhere in the $200 range including the blood test. I understand polishing after the cleaning is really important as it prevents or reduces future plaque build-up. Grateful, Don |

There is a few yorkies who are really good about getting those little itty bitty teeth brushed - but let me tell you - you'll wonder where they get that power to clamp those lips shut so tight you can't FIT the brush in there ...Tell your vet to give you a finger brush AND a good toothbrush if they send you home with goodies...That's when the REAL fun starts ! |
Welcome to YT! I am sure everything will be fine, I have not gotten to that point yet with mine. It is scary though! |
Good luck on the teeth cleaning and I am interested to learn about your eperience because I have to have my westie's teeth pulled but the quaote I got for the procedure was $500! I think I need to call a few other places and see if that is typical. |
I'm sure everything will go well. Keep us posted. My pups are still very young and their teeth are still nice and white. I do give them alot of various things to chew on and this seems to help. Do the teeth just naturally get worse as they get older? Just curious. |
