Welcome, Trixie! We just got her yesturday! She is a yorkie/pom, but way more yorkie so you can't tell the difference.. lol. She is going on 4 years old (Aug. 26, 2001), and her name is Trixie of course! ;) http://ladies-connect.com/v-web/gall...2/trx_0371.jpg http://ladies-connect.com/v-web/gall...2/trx_0735.jpg She really needs to be groomed/trimmed.. Im thinking about tackeling this myself.. any tips? lol the breeder said she will freak totally out if we take her to the groomers to be done, so Im thinking if *I* can do this, it will spare her that scaryness! |
Awwww, she is just gorgeous! Congrats on getting her. And good luck on grooming her. I do my Schnauzer myself, but haven't done Bo yet. |
Awww Shes A Cutie. :D Shes Mostly Yorkie :) |
Thanks yall. :) Now.. here's a silly question. Do I just use reg. scissors or something else. :( Sorry if that's dumb, but I've never did this! |
Practice makes perfect! :D I had to start doing Muffin years ago. She's gone to Rainbow Bridge now. She much preferred me doing it, though...even if she was my first victim! :D I have a little girl now that is 4 months old today. I haven't done her myself yet, but if she calms down someday I'll probably do her, too. All I can tell you is try if you're daring enough. I'm just kidding! Actually, whether you use shears or scissors depends on the cut you want to give her. You can use scissors if you intend to maintain a long cut. If you want her hair shorter, you can use shears with the whatchamacallit on the end (help me out guys) that will give you the length you want. She really is sweet and oh so cute! :) |
Thanks. Im actually so scared that Im gonna mess her up thoguh. :( No wait, I *know* I will mess her up! :( I wish there was a guide or something I could go by.. haha |
Well, Muffin looked a little choppy the first few times, too. :D Actually, I blamed it on her because she kept moving on me! :D |
She Is ADORABLE and looks WAY more yorkie - I can't see Pom in her but I'll take your word for that - she is adorable and so pretty - On Grooming -HERE is a good link I had saved JUST for this kind of post :D http://www.ytca.org/grooming_clips1.html You can take it slow with blunt nose sizzors so you don't take chances - has she ever BEEN groomed ? If she's scared of it you may want to get someone to help you OR take a chance and see if you can find someone who specializes in skittish/scrared (of the groomer) doggies - I have one near me that vets send the dogs that don't like being groomed - He's SUSPOSED to be very gentle ... She has a beautiful coat - you could probably trim her up yourself - Get a Wahl trimmer if you need it for her little butt and under her feet - OR you can sizzor cut those areas also...Congratulations on your baby ! |
Oh, Villette is right! If you can have someone help you, it would make it a lot better, especially if she's skittish. |

On the groomers.. the lady I got her from always done it at the house. Not professional or anything but she always did it, and Trixie is very *shy* and that's why she never took her out or whatever. She still shakes and so forth when i take her outside! :( Right now I have reg. scissors I can try with ?? I just hate to mess her up though.. cause I have NO clue how to do this! Maybe I should just wait.. |

IF you want to just trim her up - you can use reg sizzors - I have a wiggler in Cheri so I try to use the round tips - but since she's 4 years old...she may know how to be a lady and not a WWF wrestler like Cheri is :D This is my main things I do - Top 1/3 of ears Pluck inside the ear ( I get someone else to do this) Sanitary cut on tummy Shave a LITTLE on their butt Shape feet and trim under them |
If you can find a groomer where you can sit and watch her do it, that would help a little. Mostly, it would give you a line to follow the next time she needs trimming and then I think you'd be more able to do it yourself. Right now, she's quite grown out and it would probably be very difficult for you as a first timer. Here's another site: http://www.groomers.com/breeds/yorkie.html |
My groomer told me to use a q-tip and wrap the hair around it and yank! OUCH!!!!!!!! Her ears... |
