I always wanted a Maltese but not a Yorkie because the few that I knew were yappy and ankle biters. So I got my beautiful Codie and told the breeder I'd be back for a 2nd Maltese. But he said to me "Why don't you consider a Yorkie"? So I did a TON of research and just fell in love. My Katie was the VERY FIRST Yorkie that I ever held and I just melted. I can never imagine living without at least 1 Maltese and 1 Yorkie. They bring such completion and love to my life. I miss them right now (I'm at work)!!!! :( |
When i was probably in the 8-9th grade the girl that cut my hair had one " pierre" he was the cutest little thing, she would walk him and he'd be way out front, butt all shaking, and i said then " one day I will have one of those" WEll ,,, then I got my apartment, and I had 2 cats,,, So I said when I get My own house,, and 3 years ago I did,, and I started the hunt,,it wasn't easy, not alot around here, I was on a waiting list for about 1 year, then I found an ad on a local website,, and I went and got my BAiley BOY!! THEE END! :D |
My yorkie story is quite strange I think. I have a co-worker who was worried sick because her dog was stolen. She said, "He is only 4lbs!" Then I asked what kind of dog he is and of course, she said he was a yorkie. Well, I was sick with worry also, imagining the poor little guy! I couldn't get him off my mind. That's how I started researching the breed and like everyone else, fell absolutely in love with the sweet faces and all the yorkie stories. Hits you like a ton of bricks when it happens! Well, this story has a GOOD ending! Not only did the police find her dog and bring him back, but I ended up with TWO babies!! Who would've thought? |
My girlfriend used to work at a cafe in Los Angeles and there happened to be a pet shop with lots of puppies in the front window. I couldn't help but go up to the window to check them out. There were some shuh-tzus, maltese, and yorkies. The yorkies were so cute and I wanted to go inside and buy one on the spot. I thought at the time that buying a dog from a pet store is better than getting one from a breeder.. didn't know why. Good thing I didn't get the dog on the spot and decided to go home and do some internet research. Found out about all those terrible puppy mills. I found a nice breeder and shelled 1500 for Lucky. The decision to buy a dog.. for me.. was really arbitrary. |
my story is in a way sad, we had a little girl and she died at the age of 5..as you can amigine I was at wits end heartbroken and depressed,we were expecting it,she had lived thru 23 brain surgerys, but it didnt make it any easier, we had a friend who was a vet, after a couple of weeks he called me and asked me to do him a favor, would I please take care of this yorkie, she had been a victem af abuse and he had to wire her jaw shut because she was kicked so hard it broke her little jaw and she was not getting any better in the hospital,he felt if I could take care of her,it might make a differance in if she made it,then he would find her a perminate forever home, after she could eat again, gee, how could I say no,so he brought her over, little did I know he had in mind of helping me by helping her,she was with us for 13 years, we were her foreverhome..after she crossed the rainbow bridge, I knew life had to have a yorkie to be complete, now I am complete with 2 healthy ones, hairy people a boy and a girl, they were both bought with the idea of allowing them to make puppies for other people in need of special love depending on what they are going thru in there lives, there are so many people who have terminally ill children who will need that special one to help them get thru the worst time in there lives, and when you are going thru it, a yorkie makes the differance between getting up in the morning or just wishing you had te courage to join the other side, today I can say I am happy and the total slave to the babies,my hairy kids who are my life, a new start and a great life |
Judy~ Thank you for sharing your story. It was sad as you said, and I cried, but it it explains so well what we all sense about the "healing" power of these little creatures we are so lucky to have in our lives. Your desire to share that with other is inspirational. |
I always had large dogs growing up. Dobermans and German Short hairs. My husband had 2 yorkies and I fell in love with them. When we finally decided to get a dog which turned in to two it had to be yorkies. :yorkiesar |
My little one (but a long story) Here's my story. I was a caretaker for my mother who lived with me up until September 2004 when she passed away. I was so used to coming in the door everyday (before I started working from home), and saying "Hi Honey! I'm home!" :wavey: For the first month after she was gone, I still found myself saying that out loud with no response. I told my sister (who lives over 1000 miles away) about it and she told me I needed to get a pet. I thought about a cat since they are so independent and I am usually gone 11 hours a day. For some reason, I decided against it. Then, my sister told me one night, "Sheila, you need a puppy and it needs to be a Yorkie". She said a neighbor of her's had one and it was too precious. I told her that I just didn't think it was right to leave a baby all day by itself and "how on earth am I going to keep it from crap$ing on my floors"?! So, I did a little research and found out about potty pads (I had never heard of them before), Yorkies, dog pens, etc. So, I decided, "Okay, I'll do this". I started checking into breeders and found one. When I contacted her, she said she had 2 males that would be available for Thanksgiving. I was grateful that I would have a little one to keep me company during the holidays. She sent me pictures of her little guys. Can you guess what one of the puppies moma's name was? "Honey". I couldn't resist him because I always called my mom, "My Honey" too. Well, I told my sister that my search was over but I needed to decide on a name. The next day at work, I was thinking that I'd like to name my baby after my Mom (Alberta aka "Bertie") and my dear friend "Albert" that had been killed two years by a hit and run driver, so I opted for "Al". Of course I couldn't stop there. So I looked up every male name that started with "Al" and came across "Alexander" which means "protector". When I got home, I called my sister and told her that I had decided on a name and she said "Wait! you need to call him "Alley". I didn't question why she said that because I felt it was divine intervention making us think of the same name. A couple days later, I went to Petsmart to get everything for my new addition. Well, $286 later  (and still no puppy!), I walked out of the store saying "cha-ching" and making the noise of a cash register. As I was driving home, I realized that Alley's first and last initials would be A&M. So, I decided his middle initial needed to start with a "T". That's how he became Alley (Alexander) Tate Mc@@@@, aka ($ATM$ cha-ching)!!! :p Sorry, for the story being so long, but I hope you enjoy! |
Any other stories? Any body else has a story they'd like to share? |
Wow!! These Yorkie Stories are just Fantastic and I am really enjoying Reading how Everyone came to have their little Yorkie Darlings.. This is Wonderful and really incredibly inspiring!! |
Birthday Surprise I believe it was a family friend with whom I had my first experience with their Yorkie, Vampie. It was love at first sight. The following 18 months after I had a sudden new found crave for Yorkies, I did non-stop my research. I spent hours and hours looking at breeders, reading books and finding as much out about the breed as I could. It was all a bit of a fantasy world (so I thought) because I had just moved back into my parents home to finish up school, and when I brought up the idea of getting a new puppy they told me that they really didn't think it was a good idea. My boyfriend also hinted that it wasn't really a good time for me to get a puppy too, and not to mention I am just a broke college student. Well around rolled my 21st birthday, and my little sister asked to take me out for a birthday dinner. It just so happened I was kind of busy the day she wanted to do it, but she was persistent and told me that she would meet at the pizza joint in the adjoining town...period! She told me that I could bring my boyfriend if I wanted and she would pay for him too. I didn't think of the conversation being weird for some reason. Well a few hours before I was supposed to meet my sister, I threw the invitation out to my boyfriend, not expecting him to come because he had also had something planned for that evening and to my surprise he said 'sure!' So off to me my sister and when we got there it took forever for us to be seated. And then even weirder, my MOM shows up with a scarf around her head trying to disguise herself. She came over to us at the bar where we had been waiting to be seated and hands me a card with a dog on it that says "What up dogg! Happy Birthday, Love mom Zoë and Tim". I thought okay this is nice, but weird, and then she hands me her purse and asks me "is this yours? I think you left it at the house." I was like no. And then she said "hum...lets look inside". She unzipped it and I looked deep into the purse and saw my baby boy Thor. He was just a little more than a hand full. I will never forget that day. He was curled up sleeping on his baby blanket that he came with from the breeder. I grabbed the bag and started crying, and ran out of the restaurant. I just could not believe it. They had all chipped in and bought Thor for me. My mom had been searching for weeks after my boyfriend had helped convince her! And my little sis threw in her hard earned money and helped pull the whole thing off. It was such an incredible day! And I am such a lucky person! Sorry this was so long I just get excited! |
These stories are all so incredible. Some make me cry as I read them and others just lighten my spirit. This is such an amazing breed and I am proud to be a Yorkie owner. There are also some pretty amazing stories and people on this site. I'm so glad I asked the question when I began this thread and even more glad to be apart of YT. |
My story I had been begging my dad to allow me have a he said no. As time went by I persisted and finally I got the yes. At the time I wanted a pomeranian but my sisters (two of them) wanted a yorkie for some wierd reason. Needless to say that i knew I'd be the won to take care of what ever we ended up with because they love things but from far. Anyways i hade the money for my pom and as I was headed out to buy it my sister said wait look there are yorkies in the paper, come on they are prettyier and i just would give in. Finally she convinced me and we called the number in the paper and were headed to find this puppy ( my preciuos RUBY) in a neraby city. We got there and the price was way over my budget with the pom($400 max) and this puppy was $$$$$$$$$1300.00 so we all had to pitch-in to come up with the money. So once we saw her we just had to have her. We brought her home and we started to spoil her. Well then I went pshyco and started to buy books grooming her every day, buying treats. Like i thought i am the main provider now. However the price we paid wasn't the end of it two weeks later she got Pneumonia and we had to take her to the emergency vet and then to her regular vet and had X-Rays and blood work and etc..... Now she is worth like $4000 in vet bills not that this matters because she is priceless but I think a lot of people out there forget about the down side of pet ownership. Finally two weeks later I just had to get my pmeranian ( Valentino) and he too has been several times to the vet for many reasons so yes fur babies are a joy but they are also very expensive and not for everyone. :aimeeyork ;) |
I had a dog when I was really little, about 5 years old, but had to send her to a new home when I started getting really sick around her...I found out that I have asthma and could never have dogs or cats around...but I always wanted one, I would go over to friends houses and play with theirs and not even care if I got sick...I just loved animals...well as I got older I got much better control over my asthma and was finally able to actually start looking for a dog I wanted but the next issue was my parents...they have never really like animals around and I really had to work on them...but not too long after my brother moved out he got a kitten and my mom loved seeing her and playing with her, and she finally broke down and said that if I could find a puppy that would stay small that I could get one...well just my luck, my aunt had breed her Yorkie and they would be ready in a couple of weeks...and although I had seen Ellie, her Yorkie, before I never really appreciated what she had until I saw her litter...they were so adorable and I knew I HAD to have one....so after a couple of weeks, I finally got to go and pick up my girl...I was not really sure what to expect, since I had never had a puppy that I remembered...but Magic turned out to the best thing that has happen to me...she made me grow up and take responsibility for something...to realize that their our other people in the world beside me...because of her, I finally grew out of that "teenage" stage...and Sailor is just a double blessing, with sugar on top!!! :D |
I like many other people desparately wanted a maltese, but then my roomate gave me a valentine with a picture of 2 little Yorkies on it and they were sooo cute. I continued wanting a maltese until I saw Bruce, he and I just fit together and since he has been in my life I have been just taken by the breed. |
