I would suggest you invest in few yorkie books to get you started. There are some great ones on the market and they answer a lot of Qs as will a search of the Training section here. I love dog training and would help you in way possible. Once he has all his shots you might want to enroll him in a puppy kindergarten class!

I usually set my yorkies food out just before we have our dinner. They are nice and full and hardly bother us. I think the 1st few weeks they were probably at our feet but since we never fed them from our table food they took the hint and never bother us now.

The 1st thing I taught both of mine to do it sit, its really easy to teach them especially with a treat as a reward.

I am so glad that Dash is finally home with his new family...I would defintely say start everything right away...potty training, commands, and when you talk to him always say his name, it will help him learn his name faster....the sooner you start the more ahead you will be...

During our dinner, when we first got the girls we would put them in a small area, like a pen so that they would not get hurt...that way they understand not to beg or ask for food while we are eating...now that they are older they just go along playing without any attention!!!

We have taught Sully to lay down either on "his bed" in the kitchen or on the kitchen rug, on the opposite side of the kitchen as our dinner table, and sit there and be good. No begging, and of course we NEVER feed him people food. "What goes in must come out," as I always say....and so Sully only eats premium dog food (the best I can find).

Yes, Minute One! LOL. We taught Sully to sit, shake and lay down within our 1st two days of having him home! He came home at 10 weeks old, and by 11 weeks, he could sit, shake, lay down, play dead and come when called. Ah, and behave himself during dinner time...which, actuallly, when he was a puppy, he spent a ton of time in his crate.

We were SO strict with his crate training and Sully did SO well, that these days we don't even use the crate, realy. We have taken it apart and now use the top and bottom as beds (we put a pillow in each) and he loves it. But, we do have the pieces to put back together if ever we need the crate again, which we do from time to time.

congrats on dash i love his name! before you start training you want to make sure you are very well bonded. wait a week or 2 i would say. his name is something you don't have to teach him. he'll just catch on. with bandit it took a week with tucker it took 5 minuets. after that i would teach them sit. once you have that it makes everything else a lot easier. to teach him not to bite is easier said than done. whenever he bites turn him over and hold him on his back no matter how much he fights don't let him go. don't yell but say in a stern voice no bite. when he stops squirming let him go. i hope this helps!!!
