I never knew that about the pet's dishes. Gee, a whole new thing to worry about:confused: I am so sorry for your losses. I do hope that you are able to find the cause in order to protect your chi and also the new puppy that I hope you are going to buy for your 14 year old son. Those are such rocky years for teen boys, he needs all the healthy companionship & love you can provide. God bless you all. |
Oh my goodness! You are right on track with that suggestion! Before Tinkerbell passed my son, Travis, put an order in to a very reputable breeder for a little boy golden retriever! He will be delivered to us right before Thanksgiving. Thanks to all of you yet again for all of your support! |
Again, I am so so very sorry for your losses. Our prayers are with you. I saw that you had them autopsied, did you get any answers yet? Kim |
Im so sorry for your loss. Wow, this is so sad. My deepest sympathies. I will have you in my prayers. Hugs. |
i am so sorry for your loss. This is horrible. |
I just read that you son is getting a retreiver. How wonderful. This puppy will mean a great deal to him and will help him through the grieving process. I am so happy that he wants another so soon. Take care and hold your little Chi close to your hearts. |
Antifreeze???? A pool of antifreeze from the car??? Sometimes mean people will give this to big dogs because of the sweet taste.......it is awful.....it happened to a friend's dog and it was devastating... I feel so bad for you. I am very sorry. |
I honestly have looked for any sign of anything! Now, would poison in him cause sickness? Even antifreeze? There is seriously no out of the ordinary bm out there, no emesis... nada! My little Tinkerbell's tests showed nothing out of the ordinary. She may have gone into some kind of hypoglycemic coma or something. That cord caused damage to her gums, maybe she got some electric volts that killed her organs slowly. Anyway, I am grateful for all of the kind wishes and comfort. |
Yes....seems I remember With the antifreeze, they act pretty normal....but their organs shut down....slowly.....but, I do think later the dog is in severe pain...... Do a google search.....try "antifreeze poison dogs" that should pull up some info. I believe the electricity may have done it to the Yorkie....could have stopped her heart......just a guess..... |
I'm so sorry. What a tragedy for you and your family! I can't imagine what you guys are going through. We too have a lab and a yorkie and you all must be just devestated...It's so weird that nothing is proving itself to be unusual, I wonder if this was related... |
(((((((((hugs to you and your family))))))))) God has your your precious Tinkerbell and your Lab in his forever loving care. I know from reading your post that through your faith God will provide you with strength to get through this sad, sad time in your lifes. I am glad Travis put in his request for a little boy Golden Retriever, that is something for you all to look forward to. Try to concentrate on the new addition to come forth at Thanksgiving, our precious pets all have too short a life with us, how we wish they could live forever by our side, God gives them to us on loan just as each of us are but then it is so wonderful to know our forever and forever home is with him and all our loved ones. Baby Blessing has really helped us to cope better over our loss of Cassie, I think it is good to be getting the little golden retreiver, Travis. (((((hugs to each of you)))))))))) Patti and Baby Blessing There seems to be so may recently that have gone across Rainbow Bridge that I wanted to bring this poem back up for everyone. Memorial Poem For All Our Precious Pets Written by me Patti on May 26,2006 This is dedicated in honor and memory of all our precious pets. Bless the house I lived in Lord, the one that I called home the people there who really cared, they were a family all my own. Bless all the children who snuggled me to sleep Gently said their prayers- thanking God their soul to keep. Bless their Mother and her many tasks undone To take the time to hug, romp, play with me and run. Bless my earthly Father for all the love he shows, to his family plus me Oh how Blessed, to live in a home such as you have provided it to be. How I loved my family and forever grateful I will be They set a fine example of love for all the world to see. I only ask one favor Lord, please guide my family on their way Let them Remember the happy times, lest I could not stay. Thank you Lord for preparing this beautiful heaven for eternity One day my family and I will abide here, forever with thee. Ones blind implicit faith in you is matched only by your love The kind that all of us should have, in the spirit of above. When our life goes on beyond to join our other loved ones there Let us each rejoice together united in prayer. Thank you God for all you did to set our souls free Bringing Jesus into this world allowing this for you, you, and me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cassie would have been 11 years tomorrow this is her first birthday in her forever eternal home. In writing this poem I hoped it would give some comfort to those that know the pain of giving one back to the Lord for his keeping. What a gift they are to us, they as each of us are only on loan to one another in this lifetime. My prayer is for God to hold each of us in his loving arms and comfort us through whatever we must endure |
My heart aches for you and your family, please accept my deepest sympathies. I will keep you in my prayers.........:hands: :hands: |
ohhh this is so terrible and so very sad. i couldn't even imagine what you are going thru....i am so very sorry for your loss |
I am so touched by all of you! This is a wonderful forum, you guys rock! We have rallied together here in this home, and are kind of bugging our chi with oveprotection! lol. He still is fine, we watch very closely. As we take our little Tink to her final resting place today, we will be saying goodbye to her and asking her and Buddy to help guide our new "Lucky" through the next few weeks and safely into our home and hearts. The poem was a great comfort. I just can't say thank you enough for your outpouring of hope and help. Sincerely, Brandi(Mom), Ross(Dad), Travis(Oldest), Vanessa(9), Tiffany(almost 8), and Bruiser(Only child for a while) |
2 Attachment(s) I wanted to show Buddy and Bruiser to you. Of course, the avatar image is Tinkerbell. Attachment 72943 Attachment 72944 |
Awww, they are adorable! I like Bruiser(?) the light one. He looks very "serious"! |
Actually, Bruiser is the small black one. Buddy is the light colored one, and he just passed suddenly on Saturday. Thanks though, we always thought they were pretty great looking! |
Gosh, I'm so sorry. I should have read a little more carefully! They are both adorable though. |
My thoughts are with you...I have been in your shoes. My husband was in Iraq last year and last October I was outside doing yard work and my bulldog (Jelly Bean) passed away! She was just fine a few minutes before, then 7 hours later my other bulldog (Bull Dozer) passed away. I think someone poisoned them. It was very strange. I thought this cannot be real... I am so sorry for your loss! My thoughts and prayers are with you... God Bless you:ghug: |
Thanks! Sorry for your loss too... did you get another dog right away? I think that is what we have to do. |
In am so very sorry for your losses. What a huge tear in your heart. Sending healing hugs :ghug: |
Oh my goodness!! I just found out that our neighbors in back had a dog die 2 weeks ago from parvo. While our dogs had all of their shots, and she says hers did too, how would this happen to hers, and could that be what happened to my little ones? Would the vet not know that when they did the necropsy? I feel very uninformed and surrounded by unanswered questions! All I know is that I let Buddy out everyday to run in our backyard. He was current on vaccinations. He was not showing any symptoms of being ill. I never let Tinkerbell out unless it was on a leash with us. She was current on all vaccinations. She got ill Sunday night. If anyone knows anymore about parvo please let me know. I am researching it all I can... just to know. Thanks |
Sorry. I think I am just trying to latch on to a viable reason. I sound borderline hysterical... I took Bruiser in to make sure he was ok when I picked up Tink yesterday and he's fine. if it were parvo, I'm sure he'd have it too. I'm sure the vet would have caught it in her tests too. I just want it to make some kind of sense. I am just going to try to move on from this now, it has become too much to keep dwelling on. I still would like to express pure gratitude for all of you who posted such kind and compassionate messages! |
I have seen dogs sick with parvo. There is no playing and acting just fine, they are weak, won't eat, can't keep anything down/in, lethargic and it only gets worse. Parvo is a slow painful death for dogs. A friend had a dog with parvo, when we went to put him down, you could smell the death, it was awful. I know your trying to find anything for closure, but you would know if it was parvo. One thing you need to keep in mind, if your neighbors dogs had parvo and died in that yard, a new puppy in your yard could get it too. I am not sure what measures you would need to take to prevent it, but look preventing it first. |
I had a dog with Parvo years ago. A dalmation we recued from the pound. We didn't have 3 days when he bacame ill. Believe me when I say that if they have Parvo you know it. They are very sick with vomiting, bloody diarrhea, extremely weak. They can go down hill ver, very fast but you know it for sure. I would be very careful with any new puppies as your neigbors dog died of it because it can live in an area for something like a year to 2 years...I don't remember the time now but it is long. Your new puppy would be in a lot of danger. Kim :aimeeyork |
There is a bacteria called campylobacter that mimics parvo even the blood test shows a positive for parvo. If the dog is fully vaccinated then this should be something your vet should consider. Here'a an article on Parvo vs. Campylobacter http://nypugclub.org/health/ShowCrud.htm Like others have said, parvo symptoms are very severe, the dog will not eat (even the most tempting foods) or drink and usually hide and of course have the smelly diarrhea and vomiting. It is true that the virus can remain active for a year or more. I would take a solution of bleach and water and spray your entire yard. |
I am so very sorry for your losses - it seems so hard to cope when you loose two, and don't have reasons why it happened. I hope somehow you will be able to find closure on what happened. Our thoughts are with you at this very sad time. |
So very sorry for your loss!! You are in my thoughts and prayers!!! |
OMG how terrible. Your family is in my prayers. |
How horrible! I'm so sorry for your double loss. God bless. |
