I can't believe Kramer is gone I can’t believe I lost my little 8 1/2 year old Yorkie right in my own neighborhood. We were just out for our after work walk, my little yorkie Kramer, on one side and his little Chihuahua buddy, Maddie on the other side (both on leashes of course). They both love to go for walks; it’s the highlight of their day. We came upon another owner out walking her two dogs on the other side of the street. My dogs both started barking as they love to greet other dogs but I could tell by the way the other owner was holding her dogs that they might not be friendly so we stayed on our side of the street. The next thing I knew her black lab came flying across the street at us. I was in the process of picking up my babies to protect them but the lab got Kramer mid-air. He wouldn’t let go even though the owner was holding her dog and I repeatedly kicked him. When he did finally release my little Kramer, he was unable to move. I rushed him to the animal hospital but Kramer’s spine had been severed and they couldn’t save him. He was in so much pain; I had to have him put to sleep. They said that he wouldn’t survive and I couldn’t stand to see him in pain. I can’t get the picture of him not being able to move out of my head and him crying in pain before they put him to sleep. I feel so guilty that I didn’t protect him. I didn’t call Animal Control for 3 days because I was so upset and couldn’t even talk about what happened with out bawling. Because I waited 3 days to call them, I was told they could not do anything except give the dogs owners a warning. I can’t believe that they aren’t going to check to ensure that the dog will not harm anyone else’s pet or child. The owners said that they wouldn’t walk the dog anymore and just let him out in there fenced in backyard. I’m so mad that nothing is going to be done to the dog. What if he goes after someone’s child? Does anyone know if I could bring a suit against the owners? Maddie and I miss Kramer so much. It’s been 2 weeks since it happened and Maddie just keeps waiting by the front door and crying wondering when Kramer is going to come home. We are both heartbroken. Kramer we’ll love you forever and look forward to seeing you again someday. Love always, Mommy |
OMG! I'm so sorry for your loss, that is horrible, and to have to witness it, I can't imagine, you poor thing, Did the other owner, apoligize or anything, other than say she wouldn't walk the dog anymore, that is unreal! I pray you get some justice.. You and Kramer are in my thoughts. |
At least she did apologize Yes, the owner apologized and left a check for what she thought would cover the vet expenses. I wasn't able to return her calls for a couple of days so she just dropped a check in my mailbox and it didn't quite cover the hospital costs. I know that she feels awful about what happened but I'm sure she must have known that the dog was vicious. I'm going to ask the neighbors around her about any prior instances. If there is any indication that the owners knew the dog was dangerous I may pursuit the matter in court. Thanks for your sympathy. |
Yes at the very least you van take them to small claims court!!! They need to be held responsable in whatever you can get that done!! It won't bring your baby back but at least you will be standing up for your baby and making sure in whatever way you can that it might not happen to someone else. I would contact your local court system to see just what you have to do. Other that keeping their dog in a fenced yard did they offer to pay for the vet bills at least or anything? That is about all you'll be able to sue for plus the cost of your baby - I know that we can't put a price on them but the court will put a price based on what you paid to adopt him. I know there are probably better qualified people on here who will know better what you can do but you can start with the small claims court. I can't even imagine what you have gone through- all I can say is that I am sorry you had to go through that and know your baby is in a better place and you will see him again. I know that doesn't help much!! |
Sorry as I was typing I didn't get to read the post prior to mine - I am glad that they have at least taken partial respansabily. Good Luck!! |
Kramer I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I would tally up the expenses and tell the owner...unfortunately, the law does not put much of a monitarty value on an 8 yr old dog..very sad, since they are priceless..best wishes |
omg i am so so sorry for your loss.. cant imagine how you feel, but i can pray for you... take care |
I am so sorry for your tragic loss! I cannot imagine your grief. Will keep you in our prayers. |
What a sad,sad thing for everyone. I had a "friendly" collie snatch one of my babies right out of my arms. Thank God she wasn't hurt. But I shook for days after. I was so upset (mad) I wanted to shoot both dog & owner. My heart & prayers are with you. |
This is such an awful tragedy. I'm so very sorry for your loss. |
I forgot to say Welcome to YT! It is a great site, I hope you still around here , to find out. :) |
OMG I AM SO SO SORRY ~! I am so scared to walk my girls just for this reason :( and am so sorry this happened to you :( :( :( What a horrible tragedy..... that is just truly heartbreaking....Sending big hugs to you and you have my sincere condolences on your loss of Kramer....... |
Kramer Thank you all so much!! It does help to know that someone else understands what a loss it is. I now carry a heavy metal cane along with me on walks with Maddie and won't hesitate to use it. I don't want little Maddie to also lose out on her daily walks. She enjoys them so much. I almost wish that dog would come after me so I could take a swing at him. |

I hope everything gets better!! I understand how you feel exactly!!! I think that it's more of the owner's fault then the lab's fault because it is the owner that didn't contain his/her dog, it's the owner that did not trained them, she should've known how her dogs are and what kind of personalities they have... Her just feeling sorry doesn't mean much....compare to the damage she caused you... Hopefully she will get what she deserved !! Sorry, I am just a little angry, I've been reading alot of post here and like I just don't get it that so many of yorkies are getting hurt becuase of some others mistake or careless action..and it's something that they can avoid from the begining ..(I am not refering to the owner of the yorkies, i mean the owner of the attack animals...)..they are not just yorkies, they are alive and they have feelings and all that...just because they are not human, they are still equal to us, they are still lives.... |
I am so very sorry about this. There are so many irresponsible owners out there. I know your heart is broken and there is nothing we can do here but try to comfort you and be here for you while you grieve your loss. |
OMG!!!! im so sorry :( .i dont know how people can be so irresponsible  my prayers are with you. rest in peace little kramer :littleang :littleang |
OMG I am so sorry , this is so horrible! Please just remember he is in a better place, remember he loves you and misses you guys too.... |
Sorry for your loss :( I will keep you in my prayers. Taffy, Baby & Star |
I am so sorry to hear about Kramer....what an awful thing to have happen!! I can't imagine the pain you are in, as well as Maddie!! RIP Kramer.... You are in my prayers!! |
WOW, I'm so sorry to hear this! I am in tears reading your story. I do know how you feel about having that image in your head. My Gus was attacked in our own yeard if front of us as well. The cries are and will always be vivid in my head. I was very fortunate that Gus life was saved. Now as far as animal control goes,,, They did come out right away. The owners were not home at the time but the dog was lose and when I went to go tell them what their dog had done, she was sitting in front of their front door growling at me. So I did not take a chance. I called the police because we have lots of kids on the block and although this dog was always out walking the streets and usually would play with the kids, I did not trust her one bit! Animal control came and she ran to the back yeard when the owners pulled up. They were asked to show shot records to make sure they were all caught up. And were fined and were warned to fix the gate and any repairs that she had made to be getting in and out of the yeard. It's sad to say,,, but it took 2 more attacks resulting in the death of both for animal control to finally come and take the dog. With the second attack they did nothing! There was no real proof that she did it. Even though all signs were there that she did. Nobody seen a thing. It took a third time for them to finally take the dog away. In both cases they were fined and in my case they did pick up the vet bill. The last one a puppy who was playing with the kids also in their own yeard, died right there and there. I will keep you and thought and prayer. May your little Kramer rest peacfully. Sending you and Maddie huggs from both me and Gus! |
I am so sorry for your loss! I can not imagine how horrible that must be for you! This is exactly why I am afraid to walk my dogs even in our own neighborhood. OH I ALMOST FORGOT....WELCOME TO YT. This is a wonderful site! |
I am in tears reading this....my heart goes out to you.. I dont see why they cannot do anything about the killer dog....its not like that here :( Try small claims court see what they can do for you.............oh my gosh it would be a different story if it were a child  |
I read your post earlier... I couldn't reply at that time, it was too hard. Everytime I read about a big dog attacking a yorkie, I see my little Angel on her last day, and it makes me weep. I am so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. It's awful. I felt so guilty, like it was my fault and there must have been something I could have done to prevent it, it all happened so fast... But I have come to terms with the idea that it was just "her time", and hopefully you will someday too. Take care of yourself through this difficult time. I am so very sorry. :( |

Oh sweetheart! I am so sorry for everything that you have been through.. I'm not sure what to say at this time, except that it will get easier in time. I know it doesn't seem like it now. But with time, you will see. About not being able to have any help from animal control about the visious attack. I would contact a lawyer. Most of them offer free consultations. And it won't hurt anything to call. I agree with you, if that dog would do that to a little yorkie, there is no telling what else it is capable of. I would contact a lawyer. Tell them everything, even about calling the animal control people. And then go from there. If there is nothing that they can do, then you will atleast know you tried. But I am very proud of you for wanting to do everything you can to make sure that this never happens again. It takes lots of courage to do that. I'm so sorry that you had to post about this, when you are such a newbie to yorkie talk. I really hope that I can help you in some way. Please know that we are all here for you anytime, day or night, there is always someone here to talk, and offer advise. If there is ANYTHING I can do to help you, please feel free to pm me. Talk to you soon. God Bless you! Rest in peace :littleang |
Im so sorry for your loss. |
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. What a terrible thing to happen, my thoughts and prayers are with you. |
OMG. I am so sorry. This makes me sick. Lots of prayers coming your way. Take care. |
Kramer I just want to thank you all for your thoughtfulness and your support. :) Maddie and I are starting to feel a little bit better. At least I can sleep and eat now. I put together a photo album of Kramer and pulled together all the video I had of him and that seemed to help. He had such a good life even if it was only 8 1/2 years. I got him when he was 3 months old and he used to even fly with us on vacations if we were going someplace I could take him. He never suffered any abuse like some of the poor little yorkies I have read about in the adoption links. He was always loved and never went hungry. I am thankful for the wonderful 8 years that he gave us. Maybe someday I will even get another little yorkie to remind me of my Kramer but I won't even consider another dog until I get a fenced in yard. Thanks again, Terri and Maddie |
Kramer and Maddie I just wanted to try to add this picture of Maddie and Kramer. It was taken right after I adopted Maddie 3 years ago. Kramer had a bad haircut here but you can still see how cute he is. I hope you can see it. |
