| On Monday we had to have our wonderful baby girl Sushi put to rest. We got her in August 2005 just outside San Antonio. At the time we had 2 boys and wanted a girl, but we were unable to have kids then. So, I surprised my wife with this wonderful fur baby. She was immediately part of the family and our baby girl. Fortunately for us we were able to have a daughter in 2008, but Sushi was still our girl. She would actually stand guard over our daughter while she was still in the crib. It's as is our daughter was her own pup. I was never a "little dog" person but I really got attached to this sweet Sushi. Over the past few years she'd lost her sight and hearing but really didn't slow down. The past few months, though, it was clear she was steadily slowing down. Saturday it was clear she wasn't doing well so I made a vet appointment for Monday. By then she had pretty much given up and wouldn't eator drink. She wasn't able to stand she was too weak. I knew in my heart what the vet would say at her appontment, but it still didn't ease the pain. She live a really long time and it will be a while before we're "over" her loss. One day I'd like to find another Yorkie like her (at least physically) but not sure we'll be ready soon. |
