I am so sorry for your loss... I just hope that you don't let Yumi out without a leash. It is much too dangerous.

She goes out without a leash for now but she stays close to me and in the back yard she's already very attached to me

She is with me at all times when she is out and is only allowed in the back yard

I know you puppy is very young now so she is probably a bit on the timid side and staying close, but as she grows this will change. Yorkies are very fast and can bolt in split second. Our property is about 700 ft deep and we live on a lake, we were getting off our boat and my husband decided to put Kirby our last yorkie on the grass without his leash, in a second he spotted a squirrel and started chasing after him, the squirrel started toward the front of the yard and our yorkie kept right after him and followed him into the street. Both my husband and I are huffing and puffing and running after him but could not even come close to catching him before he got to the street. So now I am forced to run down the middle of the street in my bathing suit and bare feet. One of my neighbors was walking in the street about 4 doors away, she tried to catch him but he saw her and turned back, then when he saw me he turned around and ran back towards her, by this time he was having a blast playing his version of dodge ball, one of us finally scooped him up. That was the last time we ever set him down without a leash. This spring we are going to fence in our back area so Lola can play safely out back but only when we are with her. So please don't feel because you are close to your dog that nothing can go wrong, I am just trying to warn you so you are not faced with heart ache again

My father, who could be brutally blunt and honest, had NO tolerance for anyone, especially HIS OWN KIDS, when they made the same mistake over and over and expected different results every time. He always said, "Judy Ann, we are human and we ALL make mistakes....STUPIDITY is making the same mistake TWICE"! I learned at a very early age, to LEARN from my mistakes.....I learned at age 6, dogs do not have a fighting chance against a moving car....they will come out the looser everytime. All this being said, YOU have sadly just lost your precious Tashi in an encounter against a car. Do not allow your new puppy to go outside without the protection of a halter and a leash. You have already experienced the heartbrake that comes from not having your puppy under restrictive control at all times. Learn from your past mistake and do not allow your new baby the opportunity to end up in the same circumstance!

Yes, PLEASE do not allow your new baby outside without being on a leash or tie out! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not make the same mistake again! You just learned how easy it is for your "trustworthy" baby "who never left the yard or crossed the street" to do just that. These little buggers are FAST but not to be trusted entirely! They are independant and self-centered and that is part of their endearing personalities but you have to know that is also a big fault with them. Keep them safe!
