I tried to save you...RIP sweet baby.
 

I was just in the car driving back from a friend's house and stopped to get food. While waiting for my food I had my window down...and I heard the most terrifying noise I've ever heard. Something...someone, I thought, in their last moments of life. I thought it was a woman being murdered. Honestly that's how terrified and painful the screams were. it keeps playing in my head over and over :(

Anyway I drove around trying to look for an animal in the road and finally...ironically enough RIGHT by a vet, was a big dog laying on the ground...I stopped my car in the road so no one else would hit him. A guy who was working at an autobody shop ran over and said he saw the dog get hit TWICE. The people drove away....

I got out, called 911, and took a towel from my trunk we usually use for Luma after the dog park, I tried to stop its bleeding...his entrails were all pulled out and he was bleeding from the mouth....the poor baby died before the cop came. :( I held him still until he was gone.

Needless to say my night has been hell and I feel so sad that two people hit this dog and drove away. I'm trying to get those shrieks out of my head :(

I tried to save you, buddy...I'm so sorry someone didn't care enough to keep you inside.....RIPy friend. I hope you had a little bit of peace from being pet and held in your last moments :(

Sorry guys I know he wasn't a Yorkie but I needed to write this out to help clear my head. I came home and held Luma and cried. If that were a Yorkie who had been they wouldn't stand a chance.

RIP Big Dog.

Poor baby. At least he was not alone at the end. You gave him comfort and love for those last minutes. :(

Bless you for stopping and helping this poor baby. I'm sure your touch gave him some comfort at the end. Rest in peace.

Gosh girl. I'm so sorry. :(. I saw a cat get hit yesterday and it killed me. I just can't stand it. You did what you could and he knew you were there beside him as he entered Rainbow Bridge. RIP Big Dog

I am so sorry that you went through that. That is horrible. You being there and your touch gave him comfort that he did not get.

My only question is why did the guy at the autoparts do anything. He saw the dog get hit twice? Sad that no one cares anymore about others.

oh that is awful...thank you for stopping and giving him some comfort in his last moments. humans can be so cruel not to stop after hitting a furr kid. rip big doggie.

I am so sorry that this was part of your day. You did however do something wonderful for that poor baby,you were there for him and cared. Take comfort in Luma and try to find peace in knowing that you were there for this baby.

Sorry that you had to experience "big dog" passing away. I think god put you there on purpose so that "big dog" wasn't alone. Thank you for holding him so that he passed knowing love. (hugs)

Carmen, I am so sorry you had to go through this. You were so good to stop and stay with the dog until he passed. I went through the same thing last year with a small poodle that was running in a busy street. Everyone stopped their cars, but one van barreled through and hit the dog before speeding off. I held the dog until he died.

I know that gut-wrenching sadness and the sounds. Wishing you peace and comfort.

:( He was so sweet. A gentle giant. Many cars stopped and I had to tell them all I'd already called 911 and my emergency vet, who told me to apply pressure until someone got there. Not much else I could do...the cops took him and I had to drive home crying.

The autobody guy had seen him get hit by 2 different cars before he could get to Big Dog. He pointed the cops in the direction they left in. How heartless can people be?

Big Dog was sweet...probably very goofy, and definitely loving. He wasn't scared of me, I didn't worry he would bite me. He put his head in my lap and we cried together until the angels took his soul to the Rainbow Bridge and eased his pain.

Oh, that made me cry:cry: The silver lining in this is that the poor baby didn't die alone, he had a caring person holding him:love: You did a good thing. The people that hit him and didn't stop, well, I hope Karma takes care of them:mad:

how sad, sorry you had to go through that but nice he had someone like you that loves dogs there at the end. Could you tell if he was wearing a collar.

Nope, no collar but I suspect he wasn't a stray because he was pretty hefty. Well fed. And didnt act afraid of all the people around him.

I hope they scanned him for a chip so they could notify the owners. I'm not sure what the procedure is.

Oh Carmen this is just so very sad. I am glad that you were there to be with him when he passed and he wasnt alone.

He probably got loose or something. :(. Poor baby. Some people are just heartless. I don't understand at all. Really glad you were there for him.

That poor baby... I feel so horrible for him. Ran over twice? Gosh... I'm glad you stopped and comforted him for his last moments :(
