At the risk of sounding morbid, I think it was meant to be that she found you, perhaps Benji was aiding, you gave her the same thing you gave Benji a chance to know love, care and affection from a person before passing.

Part of my religious system includes the belief there are individuals out there who are destined to aid in the passing of others, they choose this, they are chosen for it because the light of compassion in them is so strong it aids in undoing any wrong the dying have felt in their lives.

Stay strong, I know your heart must be so heavy right now, but you are doing good work.

What can be better for those about to cross over than to have your love before crossing over?

They are resting in peace because of you and your selfless compassion.

I am just crushed and saddened beyond words. What a shock to us all. Oh Hon, your heart must be shattered to pieces. I am so, so sorry. I know you are in pain, we can read it in every word you write. It's so hard to understand why things happen the way they do sometimes. The only comfort is that sweet Lily did not die alone in a cold, scary, shelter, blind, smelling the stench of disease and death all around her. You fed her empty belly, and washed away the awful smells that stuck to her fur and nostrils. You cut away the painful mats and soothed her nerves with your soft touch and warm lap. Instead of cold concrete, she had a nice, soft place to lay her tired little body. Her little tail, tucked low, now wagged happily. Although people misunderstood her as a vicious dog, you saw her as she really was, sweet, alone and frightened. Really, isn't that what we all want in life? We all want to be loved, to be "special" to someone, to have a little home, a safe harbor from the storms of life, some good food to eat and an occasional little treat. You WERE her hero, and her angel. Your love and care made sweet Lilie's last days on earth carefree and happy. She didn't have to worry anymore. She could just rest and relax, and enjoy the sweetness that life is supposed to give. I am so very sorry for your loss. I am sad for all of us who lost a little darling that captured and impacted our hearts when we read her story here. I'm so sad and sorry she was taken away from you prematurely, and I'm sorry for your pain and grief, but I'm happy that she was with you. You did a noble thing. You gave your love to the weak and defenseless. You taught us all not to judge a (vicious) book by it's cover. You saw a diamond in the rough. You gave a voice to one that had no voice. Regardless of what choices you make about future pups, Lilie did have a purpose, and I would venture to say that others here may take a chance and love an unlovable because of YOU and HER. I am so sorry to hear this... I cannot believe that she is gone. Just know that you gave her the best days of her life. She deserved to get out of that shelter and she lived a happy last few days.

I feel so.....lost. It just feels there's something missing without a Yorkie in my life. But I just don't have the heart for another, that was to much to fast. For now I'll just enjoy my other furkids, when the time is right, the right Yorkie will find me - Just as Benji and Lily did.

Oh hun...I read in another post that you had lost Lily, I never saw this until today. My heart is breaking ...I am in tears..I can only imagine what you must be feeling, especially after losing Benji. Know that you gave her what she never had...unconditional love. She was loved....I know this, for your grief is palpable....it is in every word you write. Please try and get some rest, and take care of you....she is waiting for you to join her at the Rainbow Bridge, where she runs healthy and happy...she was loved by YOU.

I totally agree. That poor old girl could have very well died all alone in the shelter but instead you saved her from that. The last thing she knew on this earth was your love & kindness, what could be better then that ? I know your heart is hurting but you did rite by her. R.I.P. sweet Lily.
