RIP Gizmo - 9mo young
 

Me and my girlfriend had our Gizmo for 9mo and we just lost him yesterday. He was in our living room playing when her brother holding his son, opened the door. We are normally very cautious and wouldn't let him around the door when we go in and out, but not today... Gizmo ran out and down the stairs, I immediately chased after him. I didn't even put on my shoes because I knew it would be all bad if he decided to run all the way and get lost.


He stopped at the bottom of the stairs on the sidewalk, and he looked back at me. In my mind, I was thinking if I chased him I might be able to catch him but he thought I was trying to play with him and he ran across the street. Right as he crossed the street a taxi came and then....
We heard a squeal from Gizmo and I was shock, but at that moment I knew it wasn't going to be good at all. My girlfriend was at the top of the stairs screaming, neighbors were coming out and I ran to see my baby. He lied there, blood gushing out, but he was already gone and I knew it. He was in one piece, looking handsome as ever and I didn't know what to do. Our neighbors came out with sheets to cover him and others with boxes and others were consoling us.

Reddit has always been good with advice and moral support. We miss him much and always think about the good and bad times we had together. I miss Gizmo snuggling up next to me to sleep every single night. We're only in the second day without him and it feels like a big part of our life is missing even though he's only been with us for a short time. I keep blaming myself thinking what if I didn't chase him because I should have known better.

I am so very sorry for your loss! You cannot blame yourself...He probably would have darted across no matter what. This is my worst fear. Again, I am so very sorry and may Gizmo rest in peace.

I'm sorry you had to go through this tragedy. Please know that your little guy is at peace now and although the "mind pictures" are still horrible for you, in time your wonderful memories with Gizmo will take their place.

Please understand that we know what your going through and how difficult it is. There are no words to make it better but just trust that in time it will get easier. For now, go on with your grieving but don't blame yourself or your brother in-law. It was a tragic accident and you can't change what happened, these things do happen. I'm so sorry for you and your family.

I am getting ill , physically ill, loosing all these babies ....sooooooo many, so recently.....my heart breaks for you..............

If there is only one thing I could shout at the top of my lungs, to the entire world: PLEASE!!! PLEASE, PUT BABY GATES UP ACROSS EVERY DOOR THAT LEADS TO AN EXIT OUT OF YOUR RESIDENCE. PLEASE USE EX-PENS TO FENCE OFF AN AREA IN FRONT OF ANY DOOR THAT IS AN EXIT. THESE BABIES DART SOOOOO FAST, AND THEY ARE GONE!!!! PLEASE EVERYBODY!!! THIS COULD BE YOU NEXT TIME.....IT HAPPENS SOOOO FAST........WE HAVE LOST SOOOOOOOO MANY BABIES THIS PAST MONTH......MY HEART BREAKS WITH EACH ONE THAT GOES......I am soooooo sorry for you, and especially little Gizmo..........so sad..........

I\'m so sorry for this tragic accident. Mine are darters, too, which is why I have an ex-pen set up around our front door and baby gates on the other exits. My girls got out once and they headed right for the road. I was very lucky that there were no cars coming!!

I am so sorry for you loss! I was crying while reading your story. I know what you are going through and it is hard. I lost my boy Gizmo in march in a similar way. RIP Gizmo!

This little pup, even though only has been our lives for only 9 months have touched us all. My mom has been crying all night and hasn\'t been able to sleep well. My girlfriend\'s side of the family is also the same.

I am feeling better, but everything is still pretty fresh since this is only Day 3. The sadness seems to hit me in waves, but it\'s getting better. I would get all teary eyed when I look at his pictures and think back of the good times we had, I would smile and be sad that he isn\'t here any longer.

What\'s really painful is that I expected Gizmo to grow old with us, seeing me marry and he would be able to play with my kids. What\'s done is done, and I need to accept that he is indeed gone. What does make me feel better is that everyone loved Gizmo, especially me and my girlfriend. His life was short, but he was happy. Even though he had a short life, he was happy until the very end. He was running across the street because he wanted to play.

What made me teary eyed was that my brother in-law saw the incident from above and he said that right before he had gotten hit by the car, he turned around and looked at me. Whether that was him saying his final goodbye, or he was seeing if I was following him still. Either way, I will miss you BUD!

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. My little furbaby is about the same age as Gizmo and I couldn\'t imagine losing him so soon. Gizmo was a beauftiful little Yorkie and now he\'s gone to rainbow bridge. He is at peace now and will always be in your heart. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

I\'m so incredibly sorry for your loss!!!

I am so sorry about Gizmo. There we\'re so many times Cosmo got out of our back yard due to someone leaving one of our gates open and he\'d be out running in the street. We we\'re so lucky but that could have easily been us. Please don\'t beat yourself up about it, they all like to run, at least you we\'re with him in the end and he knew that.
