Hi my name is Robin,

I'm so happy to be able to share this information in this forum. I had to put my 7 month old Max down because a vet did not inform me how dangerous anestestia was for yorkies.......we must pass this message on and never forget this story.

Max had a heart attack on the table while he was being neutered. This should have never happened.

I got to hug another yorkie puppy last night and his sweet kisses reminded me of Max......

I have to go on, but I don't want to ever forget that I could have prevented this by being more informed.

Please let all your friends know that there are other ways and to be well informed.

I love you Maxamio, your my little pio, maximio,,,,,,,you loved my spagetti sauce and your kisses were all so soft, I love you maximio......

Robin, I was following your other post and was praying for a better outcome for Max. I don't know why terrible things happen like that, but I know Max is looking down on you and will always be in your heart! Sending you lots of hugs and prayers!

Again I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my first yorkie at only 5 months old. I only had him for 2 months. :( It was devastating. These little ones worm their way into your heart so quickly and easily. RIP sweet Max.

I am so sorry for your loss I know it's heartbreaking...know that many thoughts and prayers have been extended to you. I also wanted to thank you for sharing your story so that others (such as myself) are more informed. I know now that I'm not risking putting my baby under anestestia unless it is utterly necessary. Once again I'm sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. I always tell the people who get to adopt one of our puppies about the dangers of anesthesia and recommend them to check and ask for references of the vet before having the procedure done as there is newer safer drugs and technology that minimizes the risks, besides a vet and staff experienced with tiny and toy breeds usually know that by heart.
I am glad however that you found the strength to share your story and empower other owners to make best decisions for their pets.

I am so very, very sorry. What a sad story. I'm sorry you had this experience in your life. We love our babies like our children. They become our children; just the furry kind.

I'd like to know what new anethesia should be used on little dogs. Mine goes in on Thursday. What should I be asking the vet?:confused:

First and foremost, Robin I am so very sorry about the loss of your baby. This is so tragic, and I understand the pain you feel. I don't really understand what happened with him and why the anesthesia harmed him. I'm sorry you weren't informed of presurgical testing. Even so, sometimes things happen no matter how careful we are being. I don't mean any disrespect here, and I really am very saddened to hear about Max. I am a big worrier, and I don't like to take risks. That said, most times not having certain things done because we are worried about anesthesia can be more harmful to our babies than the anesthesia. I had dentals done on my little girls at least once a year until I wasn't able to with Ashley because of her heart being enlarged. I know they weren't a medical necessity, but I believe they helped to keep my girls healthy. We decided with Ashley then not to have any surgical procedures that weren't necessary. Still, there were three times that we needed to put her under anesthesia because the quality of her life without the procedures would not have been as good. I knew it was risky, but I chose for Ashley's sake to take the risk, and she lived until almost seventeen. I also believe spaying and neutering are better for the health of our babies, even though there are risks involved. Thank you for letting us know about this, and I hope it helps others learn about presurgical testing, even on babies. Many years ago, I didn't know about having it done on babies, either. I only am more aware now because of all of the health risks involved with Yorkies. Please accept my condolences about the loss of your baby. My heart breaks for you.

I want to thank everyone who posted a response to Max. I also want to make sure that everyone passes this story on to everyone you meet who has a little Yorkie.

I need some time to grieve but I am dedicated to creating a forum and information that can be shared so Max's life will have had a purpose.

I will come back in the forums with more information.

I did use care credit which was a blessing but I really don't have the finances to pay the bill. I will of course be financially responsible and pay the bills until I can find a way to raise money. I understand that everyone is going through hard financial times.

What I would like to do now is raise awareness. I would also like to join forces with other Yorkie lovers to find a way to raise money for these types of emergencies.

Does anyone know of a stuffed animal manufacturer who could produce small yorkie stuffed animals? I was thinking that I could buy some and put a Max icon on them. Then I could try to sell them at dog events and pass out information about Max.....

If this sounds crazy let me know. I am trying to remain positive that there is a reason for all this.
