| A horrific week We have had the most horrific week. My sweet little 3 and a half year old Yorkie, Lucy, died 24 hours ago. The vet always said her liver was weak, but she never showed any outward signs at all. She seemed completely healthy to us. Six days ago, she started being extremely lethargic and sleeping in odd places. Took her to the vet, they examined her, did blood work and eventually put her on an IV. This went on all week. She would come home at night. Friday morning we brought her back in and the vet called right away. He said she was jaundiced and her body temp was dropping. She was shutting down. WHAT??? We took her to a specialist in downtown Atlanta, where they found she had a bruise and puncture wounds on her head. Again, WHAT?? They whisked her away and came back with a tiny whitish organism that they said was a larvae that had been deposited by a fly. It was in her head, right under the skin causing her already-weak liver to work overtime to compensate for the toxins. We had never heard of a fly doing that to animals. After they found it they put her in ICU, but she was too far gone. She only lasted 14 hours after the larvae was found. We got a call at 3 AM, saying her heart had stopped. Needless to say we are just in shock and so, so sad. She was a wonderful friend and companion. She brought so much joy to our lives. We wanted her to live along, full life. The fact that she is gone after 3 and a half years is incomprehensible. She seemed perfectly normal a week ago. We are just at such a loss. |

| Thank you all so much for your kind words. It really means so much. The grief is just so awful. I know it will get better over time, but it is almost unbearable right now. It's just so unbelievable. |

| I so very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what the loss of you little has done to you. I have heard of this being a caledl worbles, but they mostly get in livestock. However, several years back, we had a cat that lost some hair on it's side, when you pushed on it, a small white head appeared, zoomed off the the vet and he removed the worble, gave anitbotics and she was fine. Was told if they have even a small scratch, a fly can imbed it's eggs. Every week when Zhoie gets a bath, I'm close to being obsessed with checking out her skin.

| I am so terribly sorry for your loss of Lucy and send hugs and heartfelt sympathy. That happened to Maddie a few years ago where she had that larvae in her back. She had a tick on her and it left an open wound for the fly to lay the egg. I've heard of it happening with other dogs, but never have heard of one dying from it. It must be because this was on Lucy's head and it probably became infected? Whatever the reason, I'm just so sad for you and will pray for God to comfort you.
