Nymphadora is gone 1 Attachment(s) This morning my 7yr old son and 9yr old daughter were playing in our front yard with little Nymphadora who is 9 weeks old. We were finally able to bring her home last week but we visited her often at her breeder's house while she was growing. Our front yard has a sturdy 4ft tall chain link fence around it, and I had also tacked chicken wire up to about half way so no one could get through it. I heard my daughter scream like she was being murdered so I rushed outside. The sight that met me was one of the most horrible I can imagine. There was a large dog in my yard that my daughter was beating on and crying. My son, who is autistic was standing there in shock. The dog dropped something out of his mouth as my daughter beat on him. It was our little Nymph. I got my daughter away from the dog and managed to get him away from Nymph but it was to late. He had crushed her lungs and she is gone. My daughter scooped her up and I managed to catch the lab and call animal control. They took him away and his owners decided to have him put to sleep ASAP. From what the vet and my daughter told me he had only chomped down on her once but that crushed her little body. She didn't stand a chance. The dog's owners won't have any charges against them except for a ticket for having a dog at large, and that is fine with me. They did the right thing by having animal control put him to sleep even though I know they are mourning the loss of their dog as well right now. They are my neighbors and have never had Quinby get out of the yard before and have taken great care of him. He isn't the type of dog that even barks at you when you walk by his yard. He was always such a friendly boy and even went through doggy classes. I think he thought Nymph was a rabbit or something because there are many wild ones around here. What ever his thoughts were when he killed our baby, I am just glad it was not one of my children. I am so very sad and upset, but it does not compare to how my daughter is doing. Nymph was her baby and they were very, very close. Even though she was only with us a week she has made a huge impact on our lives and we will never forget her darling walk, her funny bark, and unfortunately, we will never be able to forget how her precious life ended. Never take things for granted because no matter how careful you are, bad things can happen when you least expect it. |
I am so sorry for your loss :( |
I am so very very sorry for your terrible loss. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts an prayers. |
How horrible for all of you! Time heals wounds we can't imagine. YOur poor daughter! Try to keep a stiff upper lip for her and do what you can to get her mind off it. Sooo terribly sorry for your loss!:( |
How awful for you and your children. My heart is breaking for you and for them. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. |
This is awful. I am so sorry for your loss :( |
I feel so badly for all involved. I can't imagine what you or your babies are feeling after experiencing what happened to your little Nymph. I feel for the parents of the lab also, as it sounds as though he was not the typical "bad" dog. My heart goes out to you all! |
Prayers for your family and your neighbor's. Special thoughts for your children! |
My sincerest condolences to you and your family. So sorry for your loss. The lab probably did think your nymph was a bunny rabbit. |
How tragic!! I am so sorry to hear this,, poor baby! at least it was quick,, but your poor children!! how very sad,,,,:rbyorkie:RIP Nymph |
I am so sorry for the terrible loss . |
OMG I am so sorry...my heart is just aching tonight reading about all of the babies who have died from an attack by another dog. I know you don't blame the other dog.. but it still hurts just the same. May your baby RIP |
Oh Dear God - another little dog attacked :? :(:( I'm so so very sorry for your loss....big hugs for your daughter and this is so not fair !! What a tragic story and I'm sorry for your family's horrible loss and that they had to witness it too... |
I am so very sorry to hear about what happened to your precious Nymph, I am praying that your children are doing okay. Please give your daughter a hug for us and tell her that we both are praying for God to take the pain from her and the memory of what happened to you all. We hear of this happening far too, too many times. We just lost our ewe Phoebe 14 years of age, night before last looks like she too was attacked, I just recently chased two large dogs from her field, they jumped the fencing and was chasing her. Happened before :( in her younger years she use to be good at butting them and really knocked them for a loop, how I wish we had more control over these larger dogs that get out and take the lives of others precious pets. Phoebe was also a pet to us, my husband 73 years of age, started crying when he found her. He told me tonight he believes our sheep are also in heaven with God and all other pets. Heaven is forever, hopefully your daughter and you will remember her in this way, where all is good and all is well no more pain or suffering. Maybe later you can get another, in fact I truely feel the people that owned the big dog should pay for you to get another, if not right away, then later. Hugs to each of you. Patti and Jack and girls. |
Please accept my condolences. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I am sending you hugs to comfort you and your family at this time. Hugs, Mary |
Oh no! I'm so very sorry that you, your family, and your neighbors are going through this. Rest in peace, Nymphadora. |

thank you for sharing this news because i have learned some lessons.. a 9 week old puppy belongs with its mother.. small puppies do not belong to just anyone..you definitely need a larger older dog... and you need to get one to prevent further trauma to your kids.. i am sick from reading this:eek: |
How tragic for your family...I can't imagine how your heart must be breaking for your children. I hope in time you can remember Nymph with a smile and not see that horrible scene in your mind. Sending you Hugs and strength... RIP Little Nymph:littleang |
Hugs and prayers for both families. How heartbreaking all the way around. Little puppies look like playthings to bigger dogs, and a play bite can unfortunately be deadly. Peace and comfort to you all....... |
I am so sorry I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear Nymphadora. I know how painful this must be on you and your family. My little Dior was taken from me as well from a pit bull attack. I know how shocking this is on your daughter. My incident happened 6 weeks ago and I still can't seem to get the image out of my mind. Please take as much time as you need to comfort her since it does take a while to recover. The good thing is the owner of the lab was very responsible and took the incident seriously. As for me, the pit bull was release to the owner ... so I am going forward with law suit. I am so sorry to read the painful tragedy that seem to take so much our joy away from our lives. But the important thing to remember is, even thou your little baby's life was cut short but her memories lives on. Your daughter obviously loved her so and thats worth the time little baby like her spent on earth. I am sure Dior is taking care of Nymphadora and they are both happy with the Lord. You are in my prayers ....... |
I am so sorry for the loss of your precious baby girl. I have just heard of too many dog attacks lately. Its so horrible :( My heart goes out to your daughter, thats not something Id ever wish any child to have to watch. RIP sweet Nymph. |
I am so sorry for your loss, sending you and your kids hugs of comfort! RIP little Nymph |
OMG I am so sorry... Your poor children, having to witness that...I sure hope you can help them cope with that...I can\'t imagine what they are going through with that... |
I am so sorry- and sorry your daught had to witness that. Growing up is tough- but should not be that hard on a girl. she was a brave girl! Hug to you and prayers going up for you and family |
For your daughter...I love this poem.... Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there, I do not sleep; I am a thousand winds that blow; I am the diamond glints on snow; I am the sunlight on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn\'s rain; When you awaken in the morning\'s hush; I am the swift uplifting rush; of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there; I did not die. ** Author Unknown ** |
There are no words - I just can\'t imagine your pain. I am sooooo sorry you, your family and neighbors have such a tragedy to deal with. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers. Please give your son and dtr a big hug - this is way too much for children to see, let alone accept. Sleep peacefully, Precious Baby Girl. |
I am so sorry so very sorry not only for the loss of the precious puppy but for the images your lil girl witnessed. Even more sorry for your son who does not see things the same as we do. My lil girl is autistic as well, so I know they process things very differently. Hold both your babies tight and give them a little hug from Leo and myself, I shared a few tears with you when reading your post. Take care hon |
im so sorry for the loss you and your family are enduring. my heart also goes out to the other dogs family-knowing they had to euthanize their loved one over this. its just horrible all around. |
so sad - i\'m so sorry for your family and your neighbors! these little ones should not be outside unless they are in a secure enclosed area. |
Omgosh! I am so sorry for your loss. What a tragedy! |
