Where did everyone get thier Yorkies??

We live in Iowa City, Iowa and we got Baxter from a breeder in Amana, Iowa. I was just wondering where everyone in the midwest region gets thier yorkies, and if anyone got thiers from the same breeder we did.

Gazou 12-08-2005 10:58 AM

Good Morning -

Your Little Yorkie Is Soooo Cute! Who Ever You Got Your Yorkie From Sure Must Breed Good Looking Yorkies...i Am From Central Illinois...that Is The Midwest Right??

Well...when Dennis And I Were Looking For A Yorkie We Could Not Find Any From Someone We Felt We Could Trust..there Were Probably But We Couldn't Locate Them ...so...we Heard Of A Good Breeder In North Carolina And Bought Our First Male Yorkie From Him...we Were Very Pleased..our Pismo Is Just A Doll And Fit Right Into Our Family...he Is A Silky.

Eight Months Later We Looked Around In Our Local Neighborhood For A Female But Again Of Course We Couldn't Find One...so..we Called Mr Allen...he Said One That We Would Like Was Just Born But Still Pretty Small And Too Young Yet To Send...but...when She Got Old Enough...yes..we Did Purchase Her And Was Very Pleased...great Lil'bit, Great Personality..fit Right In With Pismo And He Loves Her From The Day We Brought Her Home. Now...the Only Thing I Didn't Know And Mr. Allen Probably Thought I Did Know Is That There Are Silky And Wired Yorkies...i Didn't Know That. Well...when We Received Her We Were Sirprised To Find That She Was A Wired Not A Silky Like Our Pismo. Well...we Feel In Love On First Sight And Decided To Keep Her. Lil' Bit Has Bore One Litter Of (4) And Now She Is Pregnant And Due Dec 28th- Jan 1st. And We Are Very Excited...she Is A Great Yorkie And A Great Mother And Girlfriend To Pismo...she Keeps Pismo In Line Even Though She Is Smaller...ha..ha..

Well...enough Written...hope I Gave You Enough Info...probably More Than You Needed....hope It Helps...welcome To The Yorkie.com Line...
I Love It...it Helps In Lots Of Situations...

I'm from Northeastern Nebraska, west of Souix city on HWY 20. I got one of my Yorkies from Lu Tomes in Minnisota. She is an awesome dog. If you want to find her site just type Lu Tomes and Yorkies on a search engine. She met me half way with my little girl (4 hours). She is great to work with. I got another one from Julie Phipps in St. Joe, MO. She is also a beautiful pup: however, she hasn't yet grown all of her adult teeth :( , which the vet suspects might be genetic. I also suspect that this lady may be running a puppy mill, every thing with her seemed really fishy. My male yorkie I got in Newport,NE. He is a great dog, and she has really reasonable prices. Ususally males for around $800 female for $900 and a discount if you get more than one. Her web site is something like sandhillspuppypaws.com. There is a picture of our girls on the photo gallery if your curious.

iowarobin 01-08-2006 07:52 AM

I got Baxter from a breeder at Maxwell, just south of Ames

LuvBunni 01-11-2006 08:25 PM

I was given Bunni as a christmas gift from my mom, she got her from a woman in Michigan who got her from a Breeder in Sand Lake, Michigan. She's very small (only 3lbs, and that's about a pound heavier than when we got her, she was skin and bones) and a little monster....haha :)

I was born there and lived there until nine years old. so Yes, techinically. Souix City to be exact. But I got Tigger off the net. Couldn't help it, saw a beautiful five week old pup and fell head over heels for him. Five weeks later he was mine. the breeder even drove out forty five minutes to meet us from OK. He's fiesty, smart and down right hilarious but he's the most intriguing dog I think I've owned.

Nebraska

I grew up in the sandhills in western Nebraska (not far from Chadron if you've ever heard of it. I lost my little 8 1/2 year old yorkie Kramer a month ago today (See RIP - I can't believe Kramer is gone). He was attacked by another dog right in my own neighborhood while I was out walking him. He was on a leash of course but, the dog charged at us so fast I didn't have time to save him. I miss him so much and didn't think I would ever get another dog but my little chihuahua is so lost without him. She is so depressed that she won't even play with anyone. I feel guilty that she doesn't have anybody to play with while I'm at work. I have started to look for another yorkie (I live in Atlanta now) but they just don't seem as cute down here. I think I'll see if I can find that Sandhills yorkie site.

yorkiepip 02-10-2006 11:21 AM

Rockton???? That's where I live. I have been looking for puppies in my area! Not sure which question to start with :) Where at? How do I get their number, are there ads in the Rockford Register Star?? I wanted to wait until the weather got a little bit warmer. My sister has a small dog (beagle puppy) and is being very stubborn with the potty training in the cold weather. Thank you!!

Don't feel bad, the same thing happened to me with Baby. :)

TeddyBear 02-22-2006 04:15 PM

It is hard to find breeders in Colorado too. The ads in the paper are people from out of state that will bring their dog to Colorado. I know they are puppy mills.

Where we got Zeke

We got Zeke from Knapp Creek Acres is Amana, IA and we're from Cedar Rapids. We had an absolutely wonderful experience with this breeder and would recommend them to anyone looking for a Yorkie!

Hi, welcome to Yorkie talk. I adopted my 2 dogs from my daughter's dance teacher and she got them from out of state breeders - she shopped long and hard before buying. Good to know there are good breeders in Iowa, though. I certainly have the itch for more - but in DM they limit you to 4 animals. In addition to my 2 Yorkies, I have 2 Siamese cats I used to breed - but the male is now 17 1/2 and my female just turned 14.

I got Muffin from Amazing Yorkies in Fairfax, MO. Had a great experience with this breeder. I have a friend who got her pup from Knapp Creek in IA as a few on this regional forum did. She was also very happy with her experience.

Gracie'sMom 03-01-2006 06:49 PM

My Maddie came from a breeder in Orange County, NY. We visited her from the time she was 2 weeks old until we brought her home....she passed away just three days after we got her from pnemonia ( apparently she was sick before we brought her home) she was at the breeders when she passed away so we never got to say goodbye....

Gracie came from unfortunelty a pet store ( Rufus & Co is paramus, nj) I was grieving and should not have gone in there...but i did. She was staring right at me and low and behold three hours later she was mine. In hindsight I think it was meant to be she has had many many health problems in her year with us and i think that all of the fear and anxiety from losing Maddie has made me strive to be the best mother I can be to her.

Just the other day she was at the vet and he looked at me and said you know some other people would have never had gone through all you have with her but you have stuck with it and have the best dog you could ask for. He is right she is sweet and well behaved and of course the queen of the vets office the girls call just to check on her and we stop by whenever we are in the neighborhood so she can run around and give all of her drs kisses...... :aimeeyork
