Anyone in Chicagoland area? Hi! I'm new to this website...and was just wondering if anyone can give me some input on some good breeders here in the Chicagoland area.... :) |
Anyone in Chicago-land Area? Hi, Francie. I'm new here, too. I live in NW IN, and I got one of my Yorkies, Kia, from Susan Harasim, in Clarendon Hills, IL. My Kia is 6 & 1/2 years old, absolutely beautiful, and very, very healthy. This is a link to Susan's web-site. Sheila http://www.stardustyorkies.com/ |
happy puppy mom Thanks for answering my web inquiry. I saw your breeders name in Dog Fancy! I wondered about her. She's not that far from me either. Is your dog within the 4 - 7 pound range? Again...thank you...much appreciated! I'm new here, too. I live in NW IN, and I got one of my Yorkies, Kia, from Susan Harasim, in Clarendon Hills, IL. Anyone in Chicago land area? Hi, Francie. You are most welcome. Yes, my Kia is between 3 & 3/4-4#'s. She has a tiny little face with gorgeous eyes, and a beautiful long, flowing coat. She is the sweetest little girl on four paws. Sheila |
Sweet Girl She sounds adorable! You should put a pic of her on here! Quote:

As soon as I finish raising my duckling, I plan to learn how to use my new digital camera, and I will post pictures of both my girls. It was back in '95, when I first saw Susan's Ch. Stardust Mischief Maker in the show ring, and fell in love with him. I pointed him out to my husband as "Rowdy" gaited around the ring, and whispered, "I would love to have a puppy out of him." I finally got my hearts desire, in '98. (It took me that long to work up the courage to call her. LOL) Sheila |
courage [The pictures of her Yorkies on her site are beautiful! I love Rowdy too! I know what you mean about "getting up the courage". I still don't know how to approach a breeder...umm..hi...I love your dogs...can I have one of your pups? lo QUOTE=Yorkieville200]As soon as I finish raising my duckling, I plan to learn how to use my new digital camera, and I will post pictures of both my girls. Well, the one thing I've learned over the years about the show breeders, if you're honest with them in regards to your intentions (show, pet, breeding) they are very nice. The ones that breed for the love of the breed, really care about even their 'pet' puppies, and are careful about who adopts them. Susan was wonderful! I told her about losing my 1st Yorkie to kidney failure at the age of 13, and I was candid and explained that my 2nd Yorkie, Sydney(who is now 9) was not well-socialized with other dogs. She was able to help me choose a puppy with a personality that worked well with Sydney. And she was so right! My tiny Kia, has actually socialized Sydney to other dogs. It's been a pure case of "Yorkie see, Yorkie do". LOL Sheila |
She sounds great Wow...she sounds like a wonderful breeder to get to know! The truth is always the best policy in my book, what would be the point of not being honest....if you want a pet..you want a pet! Although, it would be nice for my Yorkie to Look like she could be a show dog! Do you think having had previous yorkies had an impact on her finding a pup for you? I'm just wondering, because I've only had big dogs growing up...and I know the smaller yorkie breed sometimes need special care , especially as pups. Oh, by the way, Just what personality of yorkie did you eventually pick out for Sydney? Quote:

Yes, Susan is a wonderful breeder to get to know. I feel so honored to have one of her babies. You have a good attitude about being honest. I have heard of people lying to a breeder about wanting a pet, (then turning around and breeding the dog) so that's one reason I think people lie. (seems pointless to me, too.) No, I don't 'think' having previous Yorkies impacted her decision on selling me a puppy. I think during our conversation, she got to know what kind of person I am, and understood that I love my fur-kids more than anything in the world. Just because we don't show our babies, doesn't mean that they can't look like show dogs! :) People constantly ask me if I show Kia, and I laugh & reply, "No, her job is to love and be loved, and she does it very well". A few years ago, another exhibitor approached me and asked if I was a breeder, because he said he had been breeding for 9 years to get Kia's face. I suggested he give Susan a call, and talk to her. Kia's personality as a puppy was very non-aggressive. She didn't start out jumping all over Sydney and biting her, as some puppies might. As she got to know Sydney, she would climb on her back, and bite her ears, and by that time, Sydney didn't mind, and was very sweet with her. Sheila |
sweetest lil thang Sheila, Omg, she sounds so sweet..I want one just like her..haha..you must put a picture up when you get a handle on your digi cam... I'm laughing....breed the puppy? I'm afraid I won't be able to handle ONE of these little feisters, much less an armload! I have a friend who has an adorable yorkie...but everytime she scolds him, he stands there and barks and barks at her with that "oh yeah?...c'mere and say that" attitude. (8 months old and he's already the boss..haha) :animal-sm Well, when we find the house we're looking for, I'll have to give her a call...and start begging...and maybe if she gets to know me and finds out what a great "mom" I'd be, there might be a pup for me in an upcoming litter.! Francie |
Francie, Kia really is so sweet! Yes, as soon as I get this duckling "off the ground' I'll work on that new camera. I agree, one keeps you busy, two keep you hoppin'! LOL We have the two girls and what one doesn't think of, the other does! And they send each other telepathic messages, I kid you not! Your friends puppy sounds like Kia. When I warm their breakfast, sometimes she'll sit there, and "awroo awroo" at me. I know she's saying, "Hurry up, Mom, I'm starving!" We had her in Petsmart last week, and she barked at me the whole time, really drew a crowd. People thought she was adorable. LOL Now, if she were a big dog, they would have thought she was an annoyance. Yes, when you get settled, give Susan a call. You won't have to "beg". LOL she'll see what a nice person you are, and she'll know you'll be a good mom for one of her "kids". :) Sheila |

Sheila, Telepathic...hahaha...too funny. That reminds me of the time I did some pet sitting for a friend and she had two Yorkies..one boy, Harry, and one girl, Pickles (I know...don't go there..shrug) . I normally would petsit bigger dogs..you know Rottweilers..etc..so I thought, two yorkies..nooo problem...bring them on! OMG! I was exhausted trying to keep up with these two...not just physically...but mentally! Harry was jealous of any attention I would give Pickles. They each had a basket of toys...and Harry would hide her toys...every day...I would have to do a search and rescue mission..Pickles would cry and whine until I found them. Every day Harry would up the ante and hide them in more and more difficult places to find! One day, I was so frustrated (Pickles is whimpering, looking up pathetic at me, and Harry is just sitting there munching on his toy...yep life is good! I turned to Harry with my hands on my hips...and said Harry! You go get her toys right now! He looks up at me like "who me?" But he must have sensed something in my voice...because he jumps up and runs upstairs and comes back with three of Pickles's toys...I thought...omg...there is a person inside this dog outfit...LOL. They were engaging though...and after that...I vowed I would have a Yorkie one day. What exactly was Kia saying to you in the pet store anyway...hahaha? Not THAT brand...you know I won't eat that...c'mon...oh looky! The Toy aisle! Is your "duckling" really a duck? lol..who are you referring to? If it is....I bet the "kids" are having a field day with THAT "toy"! Francie |
Hi, Francie. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply today. The "zoo' has been a circus today. LOL I had a doctor appointment this morning, and it's a real trip to take the girls out, get ready, feed the girls, and Sweetie. And get out the door on time. Oh boy, Harry and Pickles sound like a riot! I am not a bit surprised that Harry 'fessed up and retrieved the hidden toys, 'cause Yorkies are so smart! Years ago, when I first got into Yorkies, a friend was a breeder, and whenever she traveled, I would puppy-sit. It was not unusual for me to have mom, dad, and a litter of puppies following me around. One of my friends females, Mindy, was a "runner". We were all out in my fenced yard, when Mindy squeezed her way under my gate, and down the alley. Well, I was on her tail like a shot! I knew I was never going to catch up, so, I squatted down in the alley, and called very sweetly, "Mindy, c'mon to back to me, baby". She stopped and turned, and looked at me, and I kept talking to her, and she ran back to me and I scooped her up, and hugged and and told her, "Please don't run away from Auntie Sheila, 'cause it would break my heart." When my friend returned, I told her what happened, and she replied, "Oh, I should have warned you, "Mindy's a runner"." Yes, the duckling is a real duckling. I raise orphaned wildlife babies, and right now, I have a female mallard that I hatched from an abandoned egg, 8 weeks ago. My girls are actually very good with the babies. My little Kia loves babies and always wants to kiss them. Well, speaking of Sweetie, I need to get her outside, I've been gone all morning, and she needs to go swimming. Sheila |
Hi I'm in Chicago. I wouldn't really recommend Stewie's breeder to anyone, but I wanted to say welcome to YorkieTalk! |
Quack! Hey Sheila! Oh cute! Nothing cuter than baby ducks! What a great thing you do for wildlife preservation..Kudos! Chuckling at vision of you chasing Mindy..hahaha...their faast for being so small! Francie Quote:

Hi! Thanks for the welcome. I"m sorry you had a bad experience with your breeder...hope Stewie is healthy though! Francie |
Hi, Stewie's Mom! Thanks for the welcome. I'm sorry you had a bad breeder experience, and I'm glad Stewie is healthy. Hopefully, you have dissuaded others from buying from that breeder, thus, sparing anyone from heartbreak. Sheila |
Hi, Francie. Thanks for the "kudos', but honestly, the wildlife babies are so sweet! You're right; nothing faster than a run-a-way Yorkie! They've got the advantage, they already had the idea and acted on it, before we realize..... Sheila |

Where in Indiana are you ladies located? |
Hi, Kristy. I live in Valparaiso, IN. Originally from IL. Born in Chicago, actually. Grew up in Lansing. I have a brother in Homewood, and a sister in Elk Grove, IL. Where do you live? I have to say, I agree with you, a good breeder wouldn't sell a puppy with any health problems and definitely would take care of any, before the puppy went to his/her new home. It's stressful enough when they leave their first home, without the added stress of vet visits to clear up a problem. Sheila |
I live across the street from Midway in Chicago. I've been here all my life! (I'm only 21) |
Kristy, how do you like living across from Midway? My sister is 30 minutes from O'Hare, and though she has been there, 15 years, it still surprises me when I visit, to hear the planes going over her house. LOL We actually have to stop talking, 'til they pass. Sheila |
Hi! I found YorkieTalk a few weeks ago and I just had to register so I could reply to this post! I'm from the far west suburbs and I got my puppy Loki in March from Susan Harasim. I love him more than I ever thought I could. He is so smart and has the best personality. He must have been well socialized while with her because he is not at all aggressive and just loves to play and be with us. We are in our 3rd month of obedience training and he is doing very well. He goes everywhere with us and is very much our little kid. I explained to Susan ahead of time what I was looking for (a bigger Yorkie- he's 6.5 pounds at almost 8 months, soft and thick coat, coloring, etc.) and she told me she had the perfect puppy for me. I was honest with her and she was honest with me. We love Loki so much!! I will try to post a picture of him if you would like. I'm very interested in a get together. Loki loves to pounce and play and there is only one other little dog in his training class (and they get nothing done because they wrestle the whole time!). Yorkietalk is such a fun forum and I'm so excited to be here! Erin |
Hi, Erin! It is so nice to "meet" someone else with one of Susan's babies. :aimeeyork When is Loki's birthday? I got my little Kia, 6 years ago, this past March. She was born 12/27/99. Susan is truly the nicest person, isn't she? :) She helped me pick the perfect baby for our family. My little Kia is tiny, just under 4#s and the sweetest girl. I'm in Valparaiso, In. Where are you? Sheila |

Any guests that spend the night have a very difficult time sleeping. A friend and I were leaving for vacation on an early flight out of Midway and she stayed the night at my house so she could get enough sleep and not drive over in the morning. Well, needless to say, she didn't sleep a wink and couldn't understand how no one in my house even stirred (including Stewie) when the planes were going over. They literally look like they are grazing the light posts on my street ;) Welcome to YorkieTalk Erin. Hope you stick around. Which suburb are you in? |
Hi, Kristy. One of my sisters friends, has lived up by O'Hare, all her life. She said when they were teenagers, they used to sneak out at night, by opening the patio door when a plane flew overhead. Unfortunately, for her kids, she knows the drill and they can't get away with it. :) Sheila |
Loki was born in November 2004. He'll be 8 months next week! I'm in Sugar Grove. It's just west of Aurora. I seem to be far away from all of you! |
Hi, I see you ladies talking about Susans dogs and My mom Got Stewert from Susan in May . Hes about 16 weeks old now. very cute and full of energy. I live in Westmont and Mom and Stewie live in Franklin Park. Mary |
Apricotkid- I think I know your sister if I'm not mistaken. The reason I think I do is because she got the name Stewart from me and my dog. Maybe I have you mixed up with someone else. Kristy |
