Beware of dognappers
 

Please be careful when walking your dog. Many ppl now are stealing dogs right from ppl's hands. When i hold mine i also wrap their leashes around my hands incase anyone tries to grab them and run, they are attached to me. A lot of them are resold for more money or given to bait to dogfighters, which breaks my heart!:( So please be careful cause toy breeds are the ones stolen the most

This is why I even hate leaving them to go to classes and such.

I never leave Lacy unattended outside and she's always on a leash, and in the past that was sufficient for keeping your dog safe. But now, people are stealing them right after of peoples arms! That scares me so much - you could just be walking your dog and someone pulls up and takes it from you... It's aweful

It's not just strangers stealing dogs... I recenly had my Lulu stolen right out of my shop... by the breeder I got her from!

Our work agreement had come to term, he wanted to trade my services for a female show dog... OK! Well she's worth $2k, I did over $7K of work for him but he "forgot to transfer her".

Monday October 15th he popped into my daycare to say hi and see how good she looks... I've been grooming her for the Annual Tradex show this weekend (October 26 - 28)... actually she was just getting ready to have a bath so she was unwrapped and no bands in.

As we were chatting he's holding my girl and started telling me how he's run into some financial problems... then he says he needs 2k and if I want to keep my dog I'd better get it for him or he's going to sell her... then he walked out!

He wouldn't take my calls but my lawyer was able to talk with him last Thursday, at which time "the breeder" was surprised to learn that an incident like this isn't handled in small claims court... because there's "a life" involved, it's Supreme Court. He was told that the only way to "avoid court" was to bring her back BEFORE Monday Oct. 22 before noon... I'm still waiting :(

This is so frightening, especially since Chip is uber friendly and tries to go up to anyone. Anytime we go out in public, besides the walk around the block I all ways used his short leash.

i know, so do i. I always double lock my apt., my windows, etc.

It scares me too, im always looking around me and making sure nobody looks suspicious

Yea all of mine are super friendly too! That worries me but i always wanted them to be friendly, so its my fault. Sophie tho doesn't just go up to anyone, she will step back.

I am always holding my leash really tight around my hand..I also carry a little mace bottle that is attached to my keychain. I know it sounds crazy but i am paranoid..Now that i will have 2 girls to walk..i am even super careful..anyone who tries to take my babies will get the taste of my mace spray!

Thats terrible. Thank god my baby is stuck to me like glue. I don't even let him walk on his leash in the city because theres so many people. I dont want him getting stepped on.

WHAT???? This is unbelievable! The nerve of that person! I hope you are awarded $$$ if you have to go to court over this.

Its so scary, someone on another forum i'm on had someone try to steal her parson russell terrier from her, they just grabbed his leash and picked him up. Fortunatly she managed to wrestle him back from the person and run home with him. I'm terrified of someone trying to take my babies from me.

We should all carry little mace spray bottles!! :)

I was telling my mom that yesterday, that i want a mace spray. I don't know where to get one. Someone told me if anyone ever tries to attack you, a guy to pinch them in the eyes or kick in the privates.

I liv ein the city so there's always ppl but i walk them where it's less crowded. That's why i need a stroller, for when its too many ppl.

You can buy it at like hunting stores (though those aren't in NYC... maybe like a gun shop?). I got some for Christmas one year. :p

If anyone tries to take Miss K I will scream, kick, bite, or do whatever I need to. I hope I can handle the situation. I do, on the other hand, make an effort to socialize her with all people because I want her to be friendly - and she is very friendly. I hope that doesn't come back to bite me.

We had a similar experience at a small dog area here about a year ago...I was there with my friend and her dauchsund...I had to go to the bathroom and fully trusting her asked if she would watch Bruce while I ran to the bathroom real quickly...Well there had been this lady there who had come without a dog (going to a DP without a dog is strange in my opinion)...Well at some point someone tried to let a doberman into the small dog area and caused a huge distraction...The next thing I know I am coming back to the dog area and Bruce is running in circles from the lady in full speed...The lady says to us "you are younger can you help me catch my dog." Needless to say she got an earful from me, but I still wonder if maybe the actual problem was she had some sort of dimensia...BE CAREFUL AND ALWAYS ON ALERT!!!

Thank God I have a bodyguard for my little man. I always walk my yorkie and my three small children with their "big brother", my 76 lb of pure Boxer power named Seamus. Usually when people see us they cross to the other side of the street. I always feel safe every where I go when Seamus is with me. Sometimes I think that Seamus and Snickers (the yorkie) have a little breed reversal going on. lol.;)

You have to be careful in the car too. We just took a trip to Florida and I felt pretty secure knowing the boyz were behind tinted glass in the back seat of the truck. Well, we stopped at a light and the guy next to us was saying something so I put the window down and he said 'I have a Yorkie too!' I was shocked that he could see them but the sun was hitting that side and the boyz were next to the glass watching everything. We never leave them in the truck alone, if we stop one of us stays with them and locks the doors til the other one gets back and when we walk them we go together. It's such a shame that you just can't walk and enjoy the scenery anymore.....

i do the same. it's smart not paranoid. we do what we have to when it comes to protecting our babies... i walk my romeo plus my mom's 2 yorks. 3 total is a handful. be careful out there.

I got my mace spray at the lock and key shop..One of those places that sell locks and keys should have it..It's small enough to carry it.

it may be a little bit of topic...but im writting a speech on my yorkie his name is teddy...and well i got the breed part down...now all i really need is why are they so expensive what makes them expensive...and why are they stolen so often...are they the number 1 stolen dog in the nation??? if anyone has answers to this i would really appreciate it...send me a private message or reply back here...but i need answers or sources to were i can get answers to my questions asap please thank you!

Me 2, i also have 3 but i walk the girls together and then Teddy alone, that way i always have enough hands if anything!

Or pinch them under their arm, between the shoulder and elbow, where loose skin hangs if there is any..you get the picture right? Pinch really small but hard, I heard that works good. Also, if they extend out their arm, take your whole body and push it against their elbow trying to bend their elbow the other way, no matter how much you weigh, 100lbs or 200 lbs, all that weight on the elbow will dislocate it.
