I think you would/will be ok. I think that the airlines are mostly looking to see that the dog has been check out more RECENTLY. I don't think that there would be a problem for a 12 trip with a 10 day cert. I think that if the cert. was more than a month old per say, then they may have an issue. JMO... |
I have been doing research for myself online this afternoon and have found the following site that was linked from the USDA's site. The USDA says that you should obtain a health certificate but refers you to this link to the regulations for each state. California for example states they do not require health certificates but does require rabies vaccination proof. North Carolina, for example - where Cooper is going, does require a health certificate and will honor that certificate for a period of 30 days (which is a good thing since Cooper will be there until July 13th). Louisiana also requires a health certificate and proof of rabies vaccination (which is usually noted on the health certificate) within 12 months unless the pup is 3 months or younger. This is where Cooper is leaving from tomorrow . . . our home state. So . . . I guess my vet was speaking for Louisiana whereas it is a regulation for our state. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/sregs/ |
I don't know if this works the same for dogs but my parents get a health certificate for their bird to take from Ontario to Florida. Then aprox 6 months later they get a health certificate in Florida to bring the bird back to Ontario. It might work the same way with these certificates that are covered for a limited time period? You may need a current one from your destination to bring the dog back? |

I have flown with Annie many times. Most airlines require that you have a health certificate for a pet. However, when you are checking in they don't always check it. Some airlines regulations state that the Health Certificate must be as recent as 10 days some 30 days. It just depends on what airline you are flying.... So to be on the safe side follow the regs of your airline. Most of the internet site for the airlines state what their policies are. On the return trip the attendent has never checked the Health Certificate cause they figure someone checked it on the way there... Carter's mom you were lucky that your vet didn't charge you. Ours charges us for the visit AND $75 for the certificate... It is basically just a piece of paper that he typed up on WORD from his computer that has name address vet number and states that Annie is in good health Condition. It also the dates of her latest shots and a certificate number... Nothing to fancy... |

Just took Guinevere an hour ago to get vet checked and to get the health certificate. Got charged $48. $30 for office visit and $18 for health certificate so all vets may not just do it over the phone. |
Bella just got her health certificate as we are flying our Friday.....Northwest airline requires a state health certificate dated no more then 10 days from the departing flight. She must be examined by the vet and signed she is in OK condition to travel and vacinnations. They will NOT let you use proof of vaccinations it must be within 10 days........If you have a round trip ticket they don't require a new one for the return flight! My vet charged me $65 for a new well dog exam :( |
A health certificate IS REQUIRED by all airlines! Period! doesnt matter what the state requirements are its the AIRLINES. |
