Update on Joey!!
 

Hi everyone,

I talked to my Mom a lot since I have been gone - she went in to see the vet today and the vet took the feeding tube out!!! Joey has been eating on his own and he is walking straight and the vet said she couldn't believe how well his lungs have healed.....my Mom said he is barking and being a normal doggie!!! I cannot believe his progress. Thank you so much for your prayers, as always. Jeremy and I cannot wait to return home to hold Joey in our arms and to count our lucky stars and thank god for Joey's progress since the accident.

I will try to update you all in the next week from the cruise ship.

Maybe it's just me, but im wondering where you are that you cant be at home with him. This is your baby you're talking about.

Wait, wait, wait. Now I just re-read that. You are on a cruise? YOUR baby is hurt, and you're on a cruise?

Im gonna be nice and bite my tongue out of respect for Dan, but if this were MY forum.......................

Who's Dan?? She had explained in her other thread that her fiance's parents had paid for her cruise a while ago and she couldn't cancel but that her parents adore Joey and are watching him. Sometimes you have events you can't avoid, and shouldn't, especially when you have responsible sitters like parents :D
I wish I could trust MY parents, but I just wouldn't. They raised me well, but I don't think I trust them with my pup, they will spoil her too much and I have ot come home to dog-zilla..hehe

Thank you for biting your tongue....leaving Joey with my Mom was the most difficult decision, but I HAD to do it. Jeremy's (my fiance's) parents are having their 35th anniversary and had invited all of their sons and their significant others for the first time ever on a vacation. They paid for all of us and we booked it months ago - they were very upset with me when I gave the impression that I may not be able to go. Then, my Mom offered to come up from Pennsylvania and nurse Joey back to health.....knowing that she is the ultimate dog lover and that I trust nobody else more, I took her up on the offer. Sometimes it is hard to make everyone happy and do things fairly, but I tried my best....this is the best thing I could have done, becasue this incident with Joey has put a strain on my relationship with my fiance...we needed to get away because of the stress involved with this. Also - we know Joey is in the best hands...AND I couldn't not show up on a vacation that Jeremy's parents would have lost out on more than $1,000 - they are not dog lovers, and they would have never understood me not going on this cruise.

I would have stayed with Joey in a heartbeat, but sometimes you have to put things in perspective and for me that means thinking about my future relationship with my in-laws and my fiance, in addition to Joey's health.

Thanks everyone for supporting my decision to go on this cruise - the last thing I need is for people to question why I chose to go, but I hope I explained myself well.

You did the right thing. Everyone will be refreshed and happy to be reunited with each other. There is nothing wrong with your mother watching him and the two of you spending some quanity time together. So glad to hear Joey is better. He will be so happy too see you! Have fun!!!!!! :D Don't listen to other's trying to make you feel bad.

Alicia, sooooo glad to hear all that wonderful news!!!!!!!!!!! Today hasn't been a day for good news so this is a welcome relief!!!! (I was referring to the horrible news about Mocha) Hope he is back to 100% by the time you get home!!!!!

I am glad that Joey is much better! What a relief! You have fun on your trip and enjoy yourself, it is not everyday that you get the opportunity to go on a free trip!

Such great news about your little one!!! Soo glad your mom is there with him!!! Enjoy yourself and know that your little one is with your mom and grandmas are always the next best thing!!!!

Hey you are doing the right thing. We all know that you love Joey very much. This trip is exactly what you and your future husband need. Joey's illness has had to be very stressful and you two need to relax and reconnect as a couple. You two need to be re-energized because when you get back you are going to have a very hyper puppy on your hands.

Alicia, I am soooo thankful for the good reports on little Joey!! If you were my daughter, I would be heartbroken had you not done exactly this and trusted me to care for baby Joey!! Enjoy your vacation because you will probably have one spoiled little Yorkie boy when you get back home!! One thing we Gramma's know how to do, is spoil babies!! ;)

You did the right thing Alicia! We all know you wouldn't have gone if your mother had not been able to be with him. Didn't you say your mother was a nurse? I thought I read that somewhere!

First and foremost i want to say i am so happy joey is doing fine...secondly i just want to say SOME PEOPLE need to try and be less harsh and judgemental.

HAHA :mad: its kinda funny those people bashing you for going on the cruise...it was your mom right? that came and stayed with Joey... Who raised us...mainly our moms with dads help!! Joey will be fine with Grandma. He will be happy to have you home. It's wonderful that she offered to come stay with him....I can't say that my mom would have done that......
You and your finance needed time away. This trip will make your relationship with your finance and family stronger. Have fun on your trip...Glad to hear Joey is doing wonderful...Prayer works!!!

Alicia and Jeremy have fun on your cruise with your in-laws. As for Joey he is fine now and your Mommy is taking good care of him. You'll give him all your love when you return.return.

So happy to hear that Joey is so improved.. He is a tough little bugger.. I understand that you felt you had to go on the trip and I know some of us would have made a different choice. But, you made a choice you could live with and kept peace in the family..
My question is why the breeder didn't or wouldn't keep him til you all came back. I mean you broought him home only a couple of weeks ago. Te breeder would have only needed to keep him 3 more weeks. I would have said" he is yours so don't worry. You have paid for him and he is not going anywhere soget him when you come back". What I am saying is the timing sounded a bit off.
After having said that, I am still so very happy that your mom could take care of him..hope you have a big pleasant surprise when you get home when that boy runs to the door to greet you..

Im so happy that Joey is improving. You dont need to explained your desicion, you did what you had to for your future husband. Enjoy your cruise. Hopefully when you return Joey will be 100% better.

I haven't been here much lately and soooo glad to hear about Joey's recovery! Bless his little heart! I hope you have a great time on your cruise! I'm so happy things are looking up for you and Joey!

I am so happy your baby is doing okay you made a tough decision and If you are anything like me you will be thinking of your baby every waking hour and feeling really guilty but dont. you have been through a real trauma in your life and Im sure I speak for others when I say how wonderful you have been to have had the time to keep us so well informed about joey.Try and have a special time on the cruise and look foward to seeing your joey :) dianne :)
